2.1 Hypothermia is when the body temperature drops below 35 degree Celsius. The lower the surrounding temperature, water or air, the metabolic speed of the body decrease and less heat is produced. The patient now becomes hypercapnic (too much carbon dioxide) and acidotic. If the core temperature stays constant, but the peripheral temperature drops, cooling and later freezing of the distal parts, fingers and toe take place. Later gangrene will develop as a result of anoxia, vaso-constriction and freezing, whereas everything in your body basically falls down.
