Section 301(3)(i) The national regulations may provide for requirements and standards about
educators’ relationships with children, interactions and behaviour guidance
and inclusion policies and practices for education and care services

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) identifies secure, respectful, and reciprocal
relationships with children as one of the principles that underpin practice. Within an early
childhood community, many different relationships are negotiated with and between
children, educators, and families. The way in which these relationships are established and
maintained, and the way in which they remain visible impacts on how the early childhood
community functions as a whole. Relationships directly affect how children form their own
identity, whether they feel safe and supported, and ultimately, their sense of belonging.
Champs also learn to become empathetic, collaborative, creative and develop their interpersonal skills and resolution of conflicts as they interact with educators, their friends in the
service and other adults.
Policy
We commit to build positive relationships with our Champs, families and fellow educators
through collaboration and interactions, which is reflective of our service philosophy and the
Early Years Learning Framework. Educators will encourage positive relationships between
Champs and their peers as well as with educators and families at the service, ensuring
Champs feel safe and supported.

Procedure
In order to build and maintain positive and respectful relationships with Champs, families
and fellow educators of our service, we adhere to our philosophy and Code of Ethics to guide:
Interactions with Champs
Champs need positive relationships with educators that are trusting and responsive to their
needs as they progressively learn and explore new experiences.
Educators will:
1. Commit to the formation of positive relationships with Champs following the
MindChamps philosophies and the Code of Ethics (Early Childhood Australia).
2. Create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere in which Champs experience equitable,
friendly and genuine interactions with all educators.
3. Role-model appropriate language and behaviour.
4. Support Champs to be aware of their own feelings as well as being mindful of the
feelings of others.
5. Encourage Champs to treat all Champs with respect.
6. Provide Champs with the opportunity to explore their dispositions for learning by
expressing themselves and their opinions with confidence.
7. Assist Champs build their resilience and Champion Mindset through positive
interactions and affirmations.
8. Guide Champs’ behaviour positively and in a nurturing manner.
9. Respect the rights of Champs.
10. Support Champs to thrive in their learning and development in the early childhood
environment.
11. Always speak to Champs in a positive manner, promoting respect, understanding and
empathy, including the use of non-verbal cues and positive reframing language.
12. Engage in meaningful, open interactions that support the acquisition of skills for
lifelong learning.

13. Respect each Champ’s uniqueness, be attuned to, and respond sensitively and
appropriately to Champs’ efforts to communicate and use the Champ’s own language,
communication styles, and culture to enhance their interactions with others.
14. Listen to Champs attentively and support them through encouragement and rolemodelling to use appropriate positive language in their interactions with peers and
adults.
15. Extend upon Champs’ interests and ideas through discussions, questions and Champs’
show-and-tell sessions. These observations are then reflected by the educators to
support them in their programming of appropriate experiences and learning activities
for the Champs.
16. Communicate with Champs by getting to their level, using eye contact, and showing
respect to the Champ whilst engaging in promoting effective communication.
17. Show empathy to Champs.
18. Ensure that the values, beliefs, and cultural practices of the Champs and their families
are respected and integrated into the programmes and activities conducted in the
service.
19. Ensure that Champs will always be under adult supervision and being supported.
20. Regularly reflect on their relationships and interactions with Champs and how these
can be improved to benefit each Champ.
21. Facilitate Champs’ individual development at their own pace.
22. Guide and support Champs in their interactions with other Champs – being
empathetic, open, respectful and sensitive to other Champs’ feelings and responses, so
as to develop an inclusive environment where all Champs’ culture, ideas and
preferences are being respected.
Interactions with Families
Effective communication is the key to developing and maintaining positive interactions and
relationships with others. Our educators are committed to forming positive, inclusive
relationships with our Champs’ parents/ guardians in a mutually respectful manner. Such
respectful relationships and responsive type of communication are set as role behaviourial
model for our Champs to emulate.

Educators will ensure:
1. All families are treated equitably without bias or judgement, recognising that each
family is unique.
2. Families and Champs are greeted fondly upon arrival and during pick up time.
3. Two-way communication is established through leading by example and being
attentive to the needs of the families and responsive in a sincere manner.
4. Common terminology is used when talking to parents regarding their Champ’s
development and provide support where required.
5. Confidentiality of Champs’ information is always maintained.
6. They remain sensitive to cultural differences amongst families and encourage families
to share cultural aspects with the Champs and educators at the services.
7. They always endeavour to seek the advice and opinion from experts (with family’s
permission), to help with regards to a Champ with additional needs or support a family
through resources available from such support agencies as KU Inclusion Support
Agency, Area Health, or other organisations.
8. They endeavour to recognise and implement the appropriate way to communicate
with each family in a mutually respectful and empowering manner.
9. Verbal communication with families is always open, respectful and sincere.
10. Families are provided with up to date service information and notices through our
various modes of communication.
11. They regularly reflect on parents’ inputs and suggestions into the programme and
make changes where necessary that will best benefit the service and Champs’ learning
and development.
Interactions with fellow Educators and Staff
The team of educators and staff is committed to form respectful, sincere and collaborative
relationships with one another, recognising that the way the educators interact with each
other influences the interactions they have with Champs and families.
To maintain professionalism at all times, Educators and staff will:

1. Engage in professional communication to develop an effective work environment and
positive relationships with fellow educators, including respectful tones and language.
This creates a positive and collaborative environment and a professional image for the
families.
2. Collaborate as a team, sharing the roles and responsibilities using a roster where
necessary and helping each other when required.
3. Be respectful when listening to each other’s point of view and ideas in a supportive
manner.
4. Maintain effective communication to ensure teamwork and a positive team culture.
5. Use staff meetings to communicate their professional reflections and ideas for
continuous improvement as a team and embrace peer learning opportunities as ways
for self and professional development.
6. Attend in-service trainings to update and refresh individual skills and professional
knowledge as educators.
7. Refer to the Staff Grievance Policy/ Procedure if they feel a situation with another
educator is not being handled with professionalism, respect, and fairness.
8. Recognise and celebrate each other’s strengths and value the different work each does.
9. Work collaboratively to reach decisions which will enhance the quality of the education
and care offered at the service.
10. Welcome diverse views and perspectives in an inclusive manner to strengthen the
pedagogical practices in the delivery of the MindChamps curriculum.
11. Always work together as a team and engage in open and honest communication,
embracing our philosophy of 100% Respect, zero fear.
12. Respect each other’s perspectives and opinions, with the aim to find a better solution.
13. Develop and share networks and links with other agencies for professional
development.
14. Resolve differences promptly and positively and use the experiences to develop more
effective methods of working together in an empathetic way.

1. Provide new educators with relevant information about the service and programmes
through induction, trainings, manuals and daily communication.
2. Treat educators with respect and sincerity to form positive relationships.
3. Be sensitive to the feelings and needs of educators and support them when needed.
4. Provide constructive feedback to educators for their continual growth.
5. Value the role and contributions of each educator through affirmations and growth
opportunities.
6. Provide opportunities for all educators to contribute their ideas and feedback with the
aim to enhance the delivery of the curriculum to Champs and the educators’ own
learning.
7. Appreciate and utilise educators’ skills and interests through appropriate assignment of
duties and projects.
8. Provide support and assistance to educators for fulfilling their responsibilities and
provide opportunities for their career and professional development.
9. Hold regular staff meetings to nurture the team culture and professional dialogues that
support the discussion of current practice and improvements to the service.
10. Use appropriate conflict resolution techniques to solve issues between educators/ staff.
11. Ensure that policies and procedures are up to date regarding communication, expected
behaviour and protocol for managing grievances.
ChampionGold Standard
1. All centre leaders commit to lead the staff to form warm, respectful, responsive
relationships with the families and positive, empowering daily interactions with our
young Champs.
2. All centre leaders also commit to lead the team to form a warm, empowering, funloving,
caring team culture with high quality relationships amongst all staff members,
with the leaders being the role models.
3. Warm, positive, happy reciprocal relationships are so important in the success of the
service and for positive referrals from the parents. Leaders and the team should
consistently find ways to connect with the families and community, so as to solidify the
relationships formed.
