Assessment Description
This assessment has two sections:
1. Project teams and Leadership
You will answer questions on team performance and leadership based on information from
your workshop slides. In this section Project teams and Leadership are to be discussed in
the context of a project in which you have been involved, hence this first section does
not have to involve analytics.
2. Discovery Analytics project
Discovery analytics projects are those in which participants are trying to gain new insight,
create completely new ways of doing things or make improvements using data and analytics
techniques. You are to research analytics projects and case studies on the internet. Use these
as inspiration to find a similar unique project of your own, and then answer the questions in
part 2 below in relation to your innovation analytics project.
This assessment is to be done individually. You need to write your answers in a report form in
Microsoft word and submit it via Turnitin. More detail is given below.

o Introduction paragraph for Part 1 Introduce your own project
o Provide appropriate headings for sections a, b & c and write a paragraph answer for
each one
o Introduction paragraph for Part 2 (a) Introduce the discovery analytics project
o Provide appropriate headings for sections b to h and write a paragraph answer for
each one
Assessment Task
1. Project teams and Leadership (3 + 7 + 5 = 15 Marks).
a. Consider any home, sport, work or university team project, in which you, personally, have
been involved. Describe the project. (150 words, 3 marks)
b. Evaluate, via an explanation, the project team involved in your project in terms of

R ecognition and Appreciation

(300 words, 7 marks)
c. Consider supportive leadership behaviours such as encouragement, listening, etc. (in the
week 8 slides). How did the leader of your project apply these in your project? If they did
not apply all of them, please explain how they could have applied the other behaviours in
the context of that project.
(250 words, 5 marks)
2. Find a discovery analytics project inspired by case studies on the internet (20 Marks).

• Discovery Analytics Project (700 words) based on an analytics innovation case study
which inspired a similar project of your choice:
a. Introduce the project in your own words
b. Describe how you would assess the project risk using predictive project analytics (PPA)
c. Suppose that the risks related to project failure appeared to be low. Explain how you
would further justify the running of this innovation project, e.g. the final outcomes would
be of benefit to society, etc.
d. Choose an optimal leadership type (see workshop 9 with eight types) for the project
e. Suggest a project management methodology and integrate it with the leadership type
f. Estimate the budget of project, and why such an estimation may be difficult given the
nature of innovation
g. Describe the best team roles (see workshop 9) for undertaking the project, and include
one that would add more diversity to the team
h. Explain how you would democratise the project across the business
• Reflection:
o Write a short 100-word reflection of issues you may encounter when managing this
project.

Assignment Submission
Students must submit their individual analysis via Turnitin on Tuesday of Week 13 at
23:55 (11:55pm) AEST.
This file must be submitted as a Microsoft word document to avoid any technical issues
that may occur from incorrect file format upload. Uploaded files with a virus will not be
considered as a legitimate submission. Turnitin will notify you if there is any issue with the
submitted file. In this case, you must contact your lecturer via email and provide a brief
description of the issue and a screen shot of the Turnitin error message.
Students are also encouraged to submit their work well in advance of the time deadline to
avoid any possible delay with Turnitin similarity report generation or any other technical
difficulties.
Late assignment submission penalties
Penalties will be imposed on late assignment submissions in accordance with Kaplan
Business School’s Assessment Policy.

1* – 9 days | 5% per day for each calendar day late deducted from the student’s total Marks. |
10 – 14 days | 50% deducted from the student’s total marks. |
After 14 days | Assignments that are submitted more than 14 calendar days after the due date will not be accepted and the student will receive a mark of zero for the assignment(s). |
Note | Notwithstanding the above penalty rules, assignments will also be given a mark of zero if they are submitted after assignments have been returned to students. |
*Assignments submitted at any stage within the first 24 hours after deadline will be
considered to be one day late and therefore subject to the associated penalty.
