Assessment Information
• You must achieve a satisfactory outcome for each of the required criteria of this assessment to be
deemed satisfactory for this assessment. You must achieve a satisfactory result for the assessments for
this unit of competency to achieve a competent result for the unit. If one or more of the assessment
results are not satisfactory, you will be
Not Yet Competent for this unit.
• You may follow the Assessment Appeals process in the Student Handbook (www.academia21.com) if
you are not satisfied with:
o the assessment result; or
o the way an assessment was carried out by your trainer; or
o the conditions or structure of the assessment
The student handbook has the steps for reassessment if you receive a
Not Yet Competent
mark and do not want to appeal.
Reasonable adjustment for assessment
Where students have highlighted Language, Literacy and Numeracy issues reasonable adjustment to the
assessment can be made. Should you receive a ‘Not Yet Competent’ or ‘Resubmit’ result for the assessment
you will be given the opportunity to re-submit your assessment work with any amendments requested by your
trainer.
The adjustment may include actions such as:
• Student demonstrating knowledge through verbal discussion to identify correct answers
• Student demonstrating knowledge through applied skills
• Allowing additional time relating to disability
• Through consultation amending assessment timeframes
• Assistance in the form of the training location to allow easier access
• Accessing relevant equipment or aids to assist the student
• Adjustments to the assessment methods to cater for any special needs (without effecting the integrity of the
outcome)
If a student requests or is identified as requiring reasonable adjustment to the training and assessment process a
detailed training and assessment plan including timetables, notes regarding the required adjustments, and any
related communications regarding the adjustments must be maintained in the students file.
The RTO Manager must review and authorise any request for ‘reasonable adjustment’ to ensure that any
adjustments and resulting outcomes are not affecting the integrity of the training and assessment process.
Location of and completion timeframes for assessment
The location of the assessment will depend upon the nature of the assessment. Assessments such as; role plays,
in class activities, presentations and written tests / knowledge questions will be conducting in the classroom. The
timeframes and due dates for these assessments, as well as any reports, projects or research assignments, are
documented in the stage outlines. Stage outlines are handed out at the beginning of each term.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent
performance of typical activities experienced in the management and leadership field of work and include access
to: appropriate documentation and resources normally used in the workplace, strategic, business and operational
plans, business information and data, interaction with others
.

Project – Business Plan
The rationale for this subject is for you to be able to write a business plan for business idea you have,
or to evaluate an existing business plan.
You are required to use an existing business plan in
your workplace or at a minimum have the recent trading figures and financial details to review
the business’ operation. Alternatively, your trainer or teacher may provide you with a realistic
business plan to be applied to an operation with which you are familiar.
Assessment 2 is based
on your business plan. To demonstrate competence each question must be answered by the student,
and the plan must be highly professionally presented and formatted. A business plan would be
submitted to the bank or investors to secure funds for your idea, so make sure that the business plan
represents the professionalism you demonstrate as a hospitality expert.
There are numerous criteria to cover in this assessment, so please ensure you have covered
all the points in detail before you submit your work.

HOT TIP: Choose a business idea/concept that you are passionate about or think
would work well in a real-life context. Think about your logo design, location, the
type of products, customers, and the visual design concept of your business. This
is a plan you could use to start your own business in the future, so get creative and
have some fun.

Business overview Introduce your type of business here, give a general
overview- you will go into more detail in the next section.
Include the type of business structure (sole-trader,
partnership, company), the professional experience of the
owner/s, what percentage of shares does each owner have,
who will run the business and what role will they do.
Product and services features
including pricing
This is where you would include a menu for your business,
food and alcohol, and what kind of services you provide, e.g.
catering, events, take-away, dine in etc.
Target Market Briefly outline the target market you intend to pursue- age,
income, location, marital status, education level- you will go
into this in more detail in the next section.
Budget Briefly outline your expected budget to establish and launch
the business.
Vision statement What is your overall goal for the business, what are you as a
business, committed to.
Mission statement What do you plan to do as a business, e.g., become a
franchise etc.
Future goals and objectives What does your business plan to achieve in the future?

Business Opportunity Introduce here what the opportunity is, how is this a good
investment for a potential stakeholder? Pitch the business
idea to them.
Business structure and the
management & ownership
Go into more detail here than part one, explain what the
business structure is, why have you chosen this, what are the
skills and the attributes of the existing stakeholders that will
make this business work well.
Organisation chart – Staffing
required for the business.
Design an organisational chart, detailing all staff members
that will be involved in the business, their position, required
skills, and what duties they will perform in their role.
Registration details & Licences
and permits required.
What licenses and permits will you need to apply for to
operate as a business e.g. liquor license, footpath trading,

What legal areas must you consider to operate your

Corporate social responsibility plan List your businesses plan to engage in corporate socially
responsible behaviour within the community.
Communication plan with
stakeholders
Provide a plan of how your business will consult and
communicate with and report to key stakeholders including:
partners, financiers, customers, staff and technical advisers.

consultation that occurred this is your plan and the methods
you will perform this task.

Part 3: The Market.

Market research Include research and statistics you have found that represent
the demographic of your business location, who is
living/working/studying in the area? What type of people may
frequent your business?
Target market This is a large section and requires a lot of detail. Based on
your research from the above section,
identify three different
target markets
for your business e.g., young families,
international students, local office workers etc. For each
category, you must break this down into sub-categories of:
Age, Location, Gender, Income level, Education level, Marital
or family status, Occupation, Ethnic background and
Psychographic – Personality, Attitudes, Values,
Interests/hobbies, Lifestyles, Behaviour).
Include photos of your location demographics of your
statistical research.
SWOT analysis Include a detailed SWOT analysis for your business.
Competitor analysis (3

Based on your above SWOT analysis, choose three
competitors in your local area that are similar to your
business. Identify their strengths and weaknesses and how
this compares to your business. What are your businesses
point of differences and how can you offer different products
and services to them, what gives you a market edge

will also help you calculate your start-up costs for the financial
section.
Include an approximate running cost per year for each piece
of equipment.
Provide a statement for each of
the following organisational
policies and procedures for:
Payment types accepted
Warranties and refunds
Quality control processes This section relates to how you will make sure your business
is running at its full potential. Consider training for staff in food
safety, customer service, etc. These quality control processes
ensure your business is offering the best products and
services, how will you make sure your staff are doing this?
What training and support could you provide?
GAANT chart Design a GAANT chart that displays the process your
business will go through, from the time of conception, to the
time it opens it doors. This is a big chart with many steps
involved, and will involve such areas as: developing a
business pan, consultation with stakeholders, finalising a
budget, Sourcing equipment and staff, training, installations,
finding a commercial premise, market research etc. Think
about a GAANT chart like a recipe, a series of steps to
achieve the end result.
Include who is responsible for each step.
Reference list Include a list of all the references you have used in your
business plan.

PART 4: The Financial Plan
Section 4 requires that you complete the excel spreadsheets located in the learning, resources,
upload these as a separate attachment to your business plan. Your trainer will discuss these in detail
in class. These include:

Balance sheet forecast
Profit and lost statement/income statement
Cash flow statement
Break-even analysis
