Task Information

The purpose of the assignment is to enable you to examine your professional practice context using a SWOC analysis and develop a research question to locate and analyse the literature that is impacting and challenging your practice area.

Importantly, you are required to articulate an evidence-based research strategy that will begin to address these factors and empower nurses and ultimately, improve patient health outcomes.

To complete this task you will:

1. Conduct a SWOC analysis (Berends & Crinall, 2014, p 134) to identify the practice ‘gap’ for your context of practice. Do make sure this gap is aligned to a policy that is either not in existence (and hence one is required) or a policy that is not working to its full potential.

2. Informed by the above SWOC analysis, create a research question using the PICO framework for your context of practice. Use the PICO process outlined in “7 steps to the perfect PICO search by EBSCO” found in the Topic 3 module on the study desk as a guide for this section.

3. Identify a search strategy to locate evidence from the literature that addresses your research question. Use process outlined in “7 steps to the perfect PICO search by EBSCO” found in the Topic 3 module on the study desk as a

4. Identify contemporary evidence-based strategies from literature and evaluate these strategies by using a critical appraisal tool (for example the JBI critical appraisal tool) to determine whether these strategies strengthen the research basis of health care practice generally and specifically for your professional practice context. Provide at least one example of an article that has been fully appraised using a tool (place in the appendix but discuss in the report).

5. Make recommendations on how these findings can be applied to a relevant policy that is not working to its full intent in your practice area with the goal to improve the health delivery and patient health outcomes in your professional practice context.
