Time Management
Consider your constraints
• What activities – As Soon As Possible (to manage
emerging risks)
• What activities – As Late As Possible (eg cashflow)
• Operational (e.g. council limitations)
• Interactions – with Principle (site access)
• Interactions – with other contractors (competition for
access, safety)
• Other organisational projects (priorities)
Developing a Gantt Chart
• Start WBS tasks, then for each task;
• Decide how (resources)
• Estimate Time
• Determine dependencies
• Plot task on timeline
Generally completed by software you heard about in OPS939

line Description Duration Start Finish Depend. People Resources

1.2.2 Dig hole 2 d 15/6/23 16/6/23 33 Tom Excav.

Another Example
Consider Various Gantt Charts for PMP
• One for where the Contractor’s project(s) sits within the
Principal’s project
• One that shows the major deliverables/activities of your
project (scope of work)
• Note that for contractors, one of the major risk is usually
denied access.
Make sure you know how you are going to
manage this (eg contractual terms for handling variations).
• Principals should also consider how delays are managed
and avoided (where possible).
