Summary
Supply chain management practices are changing to meet ever changing global challenges by harnessing and applying new processes and technologies to drive logistical and operational efficiencies. This module provides an introduction to supply chain fundamentals, explores the concept of supply chain management and discusses accompanying ethical, technological and sustainability issues.
The module will focus on the concept of supply chain management in terms of the impact supply chains upon achieving sustained global differentiation for business.
Aims
The module aims to:
- provide an overview of contemporary supply chain management practice and issues
- evaluate the main technological and digital disrupters impacting supply chains
- consider the roles of traditional operations management with supply chain efficiency
- appreciate the importance of ethical decision making, resilience and regulations in supply chain decision-making.

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
- Evaluate fundamental supply chain principles in a range of organisational contexts
- Evaluate the contribution of digital technology, Big Data sets and analytics in driving supply chain improvements
- Critically assess the disrupters facing contemporary supply chains
- Examine the ethical and regulatory issues associated with supply chain management
- (GA) Responsible Global Citizenship .Understand global issues and their place in a globalised economy, ethical decision-making and accountability. Adopt self-awareness, openness and sensitivity to diversity in culture

The module LOs will be achieved via:
- The exploration of a range of business models, tools, digital technologies and strategies applicable to supply chain management (LO1, 2 & 5)
- A critical assessment of the various enablers and disrupters relevant supply chains including appraisals and case study analyses (LO3 &, 5)
- Engagement with business case exercises and tasks (LO1, 2, 3, 4 & 5
- The examination of ethical, legal and regulatory framework specific to the global supply chain environment using case study analyses, evaluation of industry codes of practice and group exercises. (LO4)
