Assessment Task 1 – Discussion Board Post Assignment
A percentage of your grade is based on your posts on the Discussion Board. Students must make a
forum post of their problem statement (Max. 300 words, excluding references, if any) on the
sustainability issue they intend to focus on in their project. You are expected to demonstrate the
learning of this course, and therefore the use of the unit materials is highly encouraged. You must
post at least twice to the discussion board unless otherwise indicated in the assignment description.
One post should be your own problem statement for your project topic. The other post should be
thoughtful feedback on another student’s posts (Max. 150 words). The comments can aim to improve
any aspects of the problem statement regarding its scope, methodology, defining problem, or solution
development.
**Problem Statement Example and Tips
Example:
In the first quarter, the X distribution centre sent 108,000 packages. Of those packages, 15000 were
returned, resulting in a 13.8 percent return rate. The rate of return is above the accepted 7% rate and
costs the company an additional $372,000 for the quarter. Over the course of the year, the current
process could result in additional costs of over $1.4 million.

**What is expected of you as a Student Consultant?
You are required to speak with industry representative of your chosen organisation to understand the
sustainability problem they face, and how your project as a consultant can help address the identified
problem. Develop a 300-word problem statement addressing the where, what is the problem, what is the
extent of the problem, what is the magnitude of the problem, among others.
The Discussion board assignment is worth 10 points and must fulfil some basic requirements:
• Posts should be 300 words for the main post and 150 words for comments on other student’s
posts.
• Posts should capture relevant problem statement that offers insight into the potential issue
your project aims to address
• Posts should use correct grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary appropriate for a universitylevel course.
