Assessment 2 – Portfolio At
Part (a) Fractions: What to teach and how to teach itMarketing Research and Data Analysis
This essay is a discussion of these points: • What are fractions? Why are they important? Refer to the fractions content of the Australian Curriculum (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], n. d. a) up to and including Year 6. A summary is given in Reys et al. (2019, pp. 381-382). • Describe the key fraction constructs used in teaching, giving illustrative teaching strategies and resources on the theme of sport. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the three main constructs. (Those listed in Reys et al., 2019, pp.384-384-386). • Describe the full range of fraction models. (There are three). Provide illustrations based on the fraction of vowels in your first name. • Discuss the issues and misconceptions which children experience with fractions and how through constructivist approaches these can be overcome. Throughout your discussion, provide academic support for your ideas from unit materials including the textbook (Reys et al., 2019). Note that fractions constructs are referred to as “meanings” in Reys et al. (2019, pp. 384-386). Additional constructs are related in Van de Walle et al. (2014, p. 364). The great majority of the word count (around 2000 words) should be devoted to Part (a). Part (b) Decimals: Mathematics Content Knowledge Test Write two original multiple-choice questions designed to test children’s understanding of aspects of decimals, with justification of the significance of each question, as well as a short diagnostic interview to draw out additional information on student understanding of the aspect your questions relate to. The questions should reflect the NAPLAN (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], n. d. b) style of multiple-choice questions, with a single correct answer in the options. Past NAPLAN papers are available at https://www.acara.edu.au/assessment/naplan/naplan-2012-2016-test-papers State the target year level of each question and provide an appropriate Content Description from the Australian Curriculum (ACARA, n. d. a). Calculators would not be available to children attempting these questions. If a question is inspired by any published source, that source must be cited. “Original” means that you yourself constructed the question. The MCK Test distractors should mostly be based on common misconceptions about decimals, thereby providing diagnostic information. Give a brief account of each of the targeted misconceptions, linking to academic support from unit materials. Due Date: Friday 15/10/2021, 23:50 WST In 2022 Sem 2, A2 falls due on Wed 12 October.
