The deadline for submission is 04:00 PM on Tuesday 19th August 2014 You are required to submit your assessment via Turnitin online access. Only submissions made via the specified mode will be accepted and hard copies or any other digital form of submissions (like via email or pen drive etc.) will not be accepted. This assessment includes a total of 3 questions
2.a. Introduction
Instructions:
1) Read the questions thoroughly.
2) There are a total of 100 Marks for the written assessment and 50 Marks for the web based
presentation.
3) A combined mark of 50% or greater is required to pass the assessment.
4) You will need to provide evidence of your research to support your arguments, (avoid using a lot
of internet sites).
5) It will not be sufficient to just write a descriptive report, no matter how good an account you
provide. It is important, therefore, that you draw on and refer to appropriate theory for your
critique.
2.b. Questions
Written assignment submission (Total marks = 100; Weightage = 100%)
In the second question you can choose an organisation that may be either UK based or International,
on which to base your study. You should choose a company that you feel confident that you can
research and readily gain access to information through articles, journals, newspapers and other
published materials for the purpose of this coursework.
1. Read the article Ichijo, K., & Kohlbacher, F. (2008). Tapping tacit local knowledge in emerging
markets – the toyota way. Knowledge Management Research & Practice, 6(3), 173-186 which
can be accessed from ProQuest journal database via Athens. Using this article above, and
additional research material, analyse what you consider to be THREE distinctive characteristics
of Toyotas approach to knowledge management 30 Marks
2. Select an organisation, based on cases and research, that has implemented a Knowledge
management System. Compare and contrast the approaches to knowledge management that
the organisation has taken to establish successful knowledge management practices with
Toyotas approach. Your discussion should include:

Assessment submission structure
The assignment has the role of a professional report and it should be one. It must, at the minimum,
include:

• Table of contents
• Introduction
• Main section(s) Use the marking scheme sections as a guide
• References
• Appendixes (if relevant)
The references should include academic, web-based and professional sources. It is important to
show that you understand the limitations of the web sources and appreciate the significance of the
professional and academic ones. This is reflected in the number and the quality of the used sources.
For this level, a minimum of 15-20 references is required as evidence of broader reading. References
must be cited using the Harvard Referencing Style.
Any figures or graphs used in the report must have captions and, wherever needed, properly
referenced. All other instructions in general assessment guidance need to be followed.
