Assessment Task.
Critique of Living Case Workbook Decisions. The critique permits you to reflect
on decisions made in the project (living case) and to evaluate the extent to which decisions support
the intended business strategy and desired organisational culture.
Critique Questions:
1. Describe your business, its business strategy and the organisational culture you were
intending to achieve.
2. In light of the strategic blueprint outlined above:
(a) Identify the key occupational groups in your organisation. Why are these key groups?
(b) Describe and justify the role behaviours you believe are required of members of these
key occupational groups in order to achieve organisational success.
(c) Is your focal position required to display these role behaviours? Why/why not?
3. Identify some of your key HRM decisions (NB. not organisational or structural decisions).
Discuss how these have created an environment which encourages and sustains behaviour
and performance which aligns with the strategy, culture, structure and style of your
organisation (
vertical fit).
4. Give examples of how the HRM decisions that you have made have linked with each other to
give consistent messages to employees in order to influence behaviour and performance
(
horizontal fit).
5. In retrospect, would you change any of your HRM decisions to make these vertical or
horizontal links stronger? Why/why not? Give examples to illustrate your view.
6. Reflection on working as a team on assessment 1. This should include one roadblock and
one success when working as a team during assessment 1.
