Analysis Of Local Food Purchases And Household IncomeMarketing Research and Data Analysis
1.With data from the “hes-3881-E-2015-F1” data file on LEARN (under “Content” – “Households and the Environment Survey 2015”), produce a frequency table for the variable PD_Q03 in SPSS “Frequency: purchase locally sourced ? When they are available (or in season), how often do you/does your household purchase foods advertised as being locally grown or produced?” Request all the relevant descriptive statistics seen in class for this variable’s level of measurement, after deciding which observations should be classified as “missing”. Also, produce a histogram (illustrating frequencies for each category) and a pie chart (illustrating valid percentages for each category) for the variable PD_Q03 in either SPSS or another graphing program.
Provide cleaned-up versions of this table and these graphs in the final report, according to the presentation norms seen in class 6.1.
Identify the level of measurement of PD_Q03, as well as comment the results of your table and graphs in the final report: this includes interpreting the key statistics in a way non-expert readers can understand. What are these statistics telling us? What are the limits of this information?
2.Calculate the confidence intervals (with a confidence level of 95%) for the valid percentages of each category of respondents for the variable PD_Q03, using the formula seen in class 6.2 on slide 7. Provide your calculations, the confidence intervals and the proper interpretation of these confidence intervals in the final report.
3.With data from the “hes-3881-E-2015-F1” data file on LEARN, recode the variable THI_G01 “Household income” into two categories in SPSS: one for all households which made less than $40,000 in 2014, and another category for those which made more. Make sure to classify any missing values as such in SPSS.
Produce two frequency tables, with relevant descriptive statistics, for the variable PD_Q03 “Frequency: purchase locally sourced”: one frequency table only with households which made less than $40,000 in 2014, and the other for households that made more.
(continued on next page)
Provide cleaned-up versions of these tables in the final report, according to the presentation norms seen in class 6.1.
Comment the results of these two tables in the final report, comparing results between the two groups of households (lower and upper income).
