An annotated bibliograhy is a list acitations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief p (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. It is an involved process that requires a variety of skill, including summation. critical analysis, and informed library research. At the topic of your annotated bibliography you must include the central question and topic.
The Process 1. Locate and record citations to scholarly articles that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic. Briefly examine and review the article. Then choose the articles that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic. You will need at least six (6) peer-reviewed (scholarly) articles. 2. Cite the articles using APA style. ……._ 3. Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of the article. Do not copy the abstract of the article. The authors, researchers from the University of Rochester and SUNY Buffalo, identify effective ways for teachers to help young children learn new word meanings through a review of the research. They discuss the importance of vocabulary development and later literacy development. They also review what the research suggests that young children need to develop vocabulary knowledge and identify four research-based vocabulary instructional practices. Early childhood education teachers are the audience for this article. This article provides a definition of vocabulary knowledge, what children need to learn, and research-based best practices for young children.
