In order to add footnotes to your text (in Microsoft Word),
you should proceed as follows:
1. You need to use the FOOTNOTE command [normally under “References” in
Microsoft Word] in order to create your footnotes (at the bottom of each page).
2. You should put place your “cursor” (the blinking vertical line) at the end of
the sentence or word where you want to insert the footnote and then click
“Insert Footnote.”
3. The footnote will appear at the bottom of your page. To add “text” (that is,
citations [required], annotations [encouraged]) to your (created) footnote,
simply place the “blinking cursor” to the right of the (created) footnote.
4. New footnotes automatically will be numbered correctly.
5. You must use the footnote command EACH TIME you add a new footnote.

Required Use of Footnotes (containing Citations)
A. The use of footnotes are required in the following assignments and
examinations:
Examination 1 (Lectures)
Pass-Fail (PF) Essay, Option 2 (What is History?)
Pass-Fail (PF) Essay, Option 3 (What is Research?))
Examination 2 (DTO)
Examination 3 (Lectures)
B. Refer to the sample footnotes (for each of the above in A.) on the
following page.

C. Please note the difference between CITATIONS (which documents a
specific source used within a text) and ANNOTATIONS (which contain
narrative comments that usually pertain to a given text or texts) within
footnotes. Individual footnotes can contain both citations and annotations.

Some Sample Footnote Citations
A. Pass-Fail Essay, Option 2: What is History? (Lectures)
1. The REQUIRED TEXT for Option 3 as a file with eight (8) pages:
Section 2-4 pages 1 through 8 in the HIS 132 Lectures
2. You are required to use a minimum of three (3) of these 8 pages in your essay.
3. The header on each page contains the following information that you must cite:
HIS 131 + HIS 132, Section 2-3 + the page number (1 through 8)
4. If you are citing a passage within page 3, this would be a footnote citation:
HIS 131 + HIS 132, Section 2-3, page 3, E.
5. “E” would refer to the specific segment of page 3 that you are documenting.
B. Pass-Fail Essay, Option 3: What is Research? (Lectures)
1. The REQUIRED TEXT for Option 3 is a file with twenty (20) pages:
Section 5-1 (10 pages), Section 5-2 (6 pages), Section 5-3 (4 pages)
2. You are required to use a minimum of three (3) of these 20 pages in your essay.
3. The header on each page contains the following information that you must cite:
All Courses, Section 5-1 (OR: 5-2 OR 5-3) + the page number
4. If you are citing a passage within Section 5-3, page 2, this would be a footnote citation:
All Courses, Section 5-3, page 2, C.
5. “C” would refer to the specific segment of page 3 that you are documenting.
C. Examination 1 (Lectures) + Examination 3 (Lectures)
1. For each of these two Examinations you will select 3 out of 30 possible topics.
2. Let us assume that you selected Topic 30 in Examination 1, the header of which
contains the following information that you must cite with each of your footnotes:
HIS 131, Section 4, page 26 and the segment in page 1 that you documenting:
(for example): HIS 132, Section 4, page 26, [C]. [[C] is within page 26]
3. Let us assume that you selected Topic 18 in Examination 3, the header of which
contains the following information that you must cite with each of your footnotes:
HIS 131, Section 3-4, page 8 and the segment in page 8 that you documenting:
(for example): HIS 132, Section 3-4, page 8, E. [E is within page 8]
D. Examination 2 [3 of the Detailed Text Outlines by your fellow students]
1. For Examination 2 you will select 3 of the DTOs by the your fellow students.
2. Your will cite [1] the name of the student [2] the book containing their Chapter, [3] the Chapter
number, [4] the page number of their DTO, and [5] the segment of the page you are referring to.
3. Let us assume that you selected the DTO by Student 2, which was prepared using
Chapter 27 in Patterns of World History (previously used in HIS 132).
4. A sample footnote would be the following:
Student 2, Patterns, Chapter 27, page 3, 27a-2. [27a-2 is within page 3]
5. Let us assume that you selected the DTO by Student 6, which was prepared using
Chapter 20 in History of Africa. A sample footnote would be the following:
Student 6, Afr, Chapter 20, page 4, 20c, C. [20c, C. is within page 4]
