Assignment 2 – FEEDBACK CONVERSATION
Value: 50%

Unit Learning Outcomes:

Instructons
In this unit, you will learn about feedback. Why it is so difficult for us to receive feedback
from and provide feedback to the people we work with. In class, we will discuss the
importance of especially developmental feedback and how best to provide such
feedback.
Referencing and Sources
This assessment is not a research report – the focus should be on demonstrating your
understanding of the material and the key ideas by applying them to a leadership
problem. However, your assessment will need to include peer-reviewed academic
sources. Your main sources for references should be the assigned and recommended
readings for this unit: articles from peer-reviewed academic journals and the textbook.
Do not use Wikipedia nor reply primarily on webpages or blogs. The referencing style
required for this unit is the APA 7th referencing style. A reference list and the use of intext citations are required. More details are available in the Referencing Guide on the
Edith Cowan University Library website.
Step 1: For this assessment, you are required to have an actual feedback conversation
(either formal or informal) with someone in your work environment during which you
provide this person with feedback that you think would help them improve their work
behaviour. Remember, prepare, prepare, prepare!
Step 2: After the feedback conversation, please answer the following seven questions:
1. What are the initals of this person?
2. What is your relatonship (e.g., superior, colleague, subordinate) with this person?
3. For how long have you been working with this person?
4. Why did you think that this person is (potentally) problematc for your organizaton?
In other words, what does this person do (or fail to do) and which problems does that
cause? Or what problems may that cause in the future? For whom?
5. How did you prepare the feedback conversaton?
6. Please describe the feedback conversaton. What did you say? Did you say what you
wanted and needed to say? How did you feel while having the feedback
conversaton? How did the other person react?
7. Please reflect back on questons 4, 5, and 6. What did you learn from this feedback
conversaton? How does that relate to theory and research on feedback?
You can use up to 2000 words (in total) to answer all questions.
