BUS307 Work Integrated Learning (Internship)
Assessments’ Details and Marking Rubrics
Assessment 1- Organisational orientation research report (Individual) 20%
Due: Week 4, Friday 31/3/2023 by 5 pm. Word limit (1000 words)
Task: Students are required to write a report based on Organisation Orientation. This
assessment will require in-depth research and analysis of the company chosen for their
internship. The assessment with the standard assignment cover sheet must be submitted
through MyCIHE in MS Word or PDF format.
Format: Report should include the following sections:
Title
Table of Contents
Introduction
Company Background
SWOT Analysis
Orientation process and schedule
Tasks and responsibilities
Way forward
References
The lecturer will explain the details of each section during the Week 1 workshop. Refer to
the marking rubric for details. (Total marks – 20)
Assessment 2: Portfolio (Individual) 30%
(Due: Week 11, Friday 19/05/2023 5 pm. Word limit (1500 words
Task: Students have to construct a portfolio (a collection of artefacts that document the work
they have done) focusing on the skills and knowledge acquired during their internship
experience. As they construct their portfolio, they will gain insight into areas of personal
strengths and weaknesses, skills they have acquired, and business concepts they have
utilised.

Components of portfolio:
1. Description of your Internship Position: Include the types of projects you will
complete, the hours you will be working, the people you will be reporting to, etc. [5
marks]
2. Description of Goals and Expectations: Do not offer broad, general goals. Your goals
can focus on job-related goals as well as personal growth goals. Indicate how your
internship will help you accomplish your goals. What steps will you take to reach the
goals you have set? [5 marks]
3. Selection of work samples or other artefacts: Choose artefacts that will reflect what
you did as well as what you learned during your internship. Interns can choose to
include brochures, reports, company evaluations, agendas from meetings you have
attended, materials that describe the training you have participated in etc. For the
artefacts included in your portfolio, you should 1) describe the artefact; 2) tell why it
is being included in the portfolio, and 3) indicate what you learned in creating the
artefact or in the process of participating in the artefact process. [5 marks]
4. Timesheets: Please keep track of the hours that you work each week. Have your
supervisor sign the sheet verifying your hours. [5 marks]
5. Supervisor Evaluation: The Lecturer will send a form or contact your supervisor once
during your internship. [10 marks]
Assessment 3: Evaluation of Internship / Reflective learning (Individual) 50%
Due: Week 13, Friday 02/06/2023 by 5 pm. Word limit (2500 words)
Task: Students should reflect and write an essay on the meaning of the internship experience
for their intellectual development and career planning. They may consider the following
questions (Do not simply provide answers to each one. Rather, let them spur your thinking.):
In what ways did I meet my learning objectives?
In what ways did I fall short?
How can I interpret these successes and failures?
How did this experience influence the way I understand the world?
What new insights did I gain into the practices and problems in this line of work?
What contributions did I make to this internship?

What were the best aspects of this experience?
What were the worst aspects of this experience?
What do I intend to do differently as a result of this experience?
The assessment with the standard assignment cover sheet must be submitted through
MyCIHE in MS Word format. Email/hard copy submission will not be accepted.
