Step by step guide for research assignment in Econ20039
Read the questions carefully. Make sure you understand what is required.
Check the relevant theory using your textbook. Note that your paper will be marked on the theory that you learned from the textbook. Alternative theories (from different sources), while important, will not be adding to your marks. However, the theories that are extensions of the textbook theories are welcomed and will affect your marks favourably.
Search academic literature on the question of interest. Use academic references but not Wikipedia or similar sources. Find the articles/other sources that directly relate to the question in the assignment. Skip the sections of the academic articles that you find too difficult (e.g. theoretical or analytical) or not relevant and keep your focus on the main points that supports your discussion and analysis.
Find real life examples and data supporting your case study. It can be academic articles, media releases, industry reports, statistical data collections. Make sure you check that the sources are credible.
Once you collected sufficient material related to your case study, plan how will you answer the assignment questions. Use subheadings to list the most interesting points you found during the literature search. Chose only those that are directly related to the questions asked.
You need to have an introduction, main body and conclusions for the whole assignment (not for individual question).
Write the answer to each question (and sub questions) based on the theory, data collected and analysis of data. Research assignment is focused on the facts and data, rather than general discussion. Factual evidence is the main part of the economic essay. This evidence should be examined by the theory that you learnt.
Once you finished writing, double check that all the information you presented in the assignment is relevant to the questions asked, that you provided sufficient information to support your analysis and discussion.
Check spelling and grammar.
Check references – make sure all references are in APA style and include in-text references and the reference list.
