Mile$tone 2. Site Selection
Introduction;
Site selection for the project is a process that examines different options and assesses the relative advantages and disadvantages of the site. The selection of on ideal site to build o project is one of the most important decisions that will significantly influence the project quality. The site selection must be of ter the completed need assessment because if the site selection occurs before the need assessment it might impact the aspects of the design due to the site limitations (Ghobarah. 1987).
The site selection process is one of the main optimization techniques in the project. The project optimization is finding a solution from the available alternative options, with the highesl achievable or most effective coast under the given restrictions. by expanding the moin required factors ond bY reducing the unimportant factors (Chen, Liu. Li 8. Li. 2014).
Three different potential sites were selected to fulfil the needs of this project, and they will be assessed by using the criteria’s that been explained in the identification of the brief. The selected three sites are all within the vicinity of the British university of Bahrain.
site Selection Procesai
The site selection process involves measuring the project needs against potential location merits. The site selection occurs when a specific organization is seeking to expand, locate or relocate their °P.c..,
a
Integrated Design Exercise MN • The process begins with idenhlying the alternative potential viable lofdrions followed by evaluate the site and ranking it. The site selection is followed by the screening phase, site work, negotiation and finalization. In the screening phase. a fatal flaw will take place to reduce the number of sites. The site wo, and negotiation are useful to obtain the necessarY Inform.. That will be used in the ,te selection and acquisition stage (Vieth. 1983).
Site Selection Criteria,
Walking through the area of the potential sites to explore and compare them to others to choose the viable and suitable option for this project. The multiple site options will be ranked according to the priorities of the project for example location. coast. hazard. size and topOgraPb, finding more than one site option will allow comparing the design features and the cost in the process. The site selection criteria are aspects of the selected site that makes sure the project is successful.
A, type of criteria can be selected to evaluate and compare the selected sites. The criteria of site selection composed of Must criteria and Wish criteria. the type of criteria will be different from project to another. Before selecting the proper site for the project. it is necessary to choose the relevant criteria either Must criteria or Wish criteria (Steyn 8. Buys, 2019a).
The Must criteria ore used in the site selection for the initial screening phase. and it includes the site size, availability, affordable and accessible. For example, if the plant layout requires on area of minimum 5 hectares if any of the selected sites are smaller than this the cut-off point should be eliminated from the list.
