ASSIGNMENT CASE STUDY
Case Study: Kaiser Permanente – Adopting SAFe to Build the Future of Healthcare
Acknowledgment
:
K. Powelson and S. Archer, “Kaiser Permanente – Adopting SAFe to Build the Future of Healthcare:
Reimagined Technology and Clinical Workflows Transform Home Care for Members”, 2021 Global SAFe
Summit, October 2021 [Online]. Available:
https://scaledagile.com/videos/kaiser-permanente-buildsthe-future-of-healthcare-with-safe/. [Accessed: July 01, 2023].
For this trimester, the subject of Network Project Management in both assignments 1 and 2 will center around
the healthcare industry with a focus on automation, networking, IoT, or ICT. Consequently, it is advisable to
commence by studying an illustrative project in this field, which can be accessed via the provided video link.
The aim of this assignment is to understand the stakeholder involved and examine the tangible
implementations of SAFe (Scale Agile Framework) within real-world industries, specifically in the IT healthcare
sector.
In the given video, Agile coach Steven Archer and IT leader Kari Powelson share their insights on implementing
the SAFe in the healthcare industry, particularly in the aged care sector. They will elaborate on the
collaborative efforts of their care delivery technology services and clinical operations development teams to
create innovative software and workflows. Their ultimate goal was to showcase that Kaiser Permanente’s careat-home initiative symbolises the future of healthcare, delivering a positive experience for both members and
clinicians.
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
To begin this assignment, you are required to watch the video from the provided link. After watching the video,
you will need to provide an executive summary, as well as answer the given questions. To structure your report
effectively, please use the subheadings provided. In order to complete this assignment, you will also need to
conduct additional research and include at least three sources from a combination of journals, conference
papers, websites, or other reliable sources to support your analysis. It is important to ensure that all sources
are published or updated within the last five years (2018-2023) to ensure they are relevant and up-to-date.
Task 1 Executive Summary [10 marks]
To complete this task, you must provide an executive summary that is clear, concise, and effectively highlights
important points, problems, solutions, findings, and conclusions. The purpose of an executive summary is to
provide readers with a comprehensive overview of the presented topics and offer a high-level understanding
of the subject matter.
Task 2 Stakeholder Analysis [10 marks]
In this task, your goal is to identify and conduct a stakeholder analysis. By conducting a comprehensive analysis
of the stakeholders involved, you will gain valuable insights into the project’s scope and the most effective
ways to engage with each stakeholder throughout the project lifecycle. It is crucial to consider the unique
perspectives and interests of each stakeholder, as well as their potential influence on the project’s overall
success or failure. Through this analysis, you will be able to develop strategies to manage stakeholder
expectations, address potential conflicts, and ultimately ensure a successful outcome for the project.
Task 3 Scaled Agile Framework [10 marks]
Looking back at the video, what were the key benefits and advantages of implementing SAFe in this project?
Additionally, identify and discuss another real-world project that has successfully applied agile methodology
in the areas of automation, networking, IoT, or ICT. How has this methodology contributed to enhancing
project agility and efficiency in that specific project?
