A critical study of insights gained through economic analysis of a number of issues of broad concern. Emphasis will be placed on applying economics to public policy issues.

2. ECON 208 Microeconomic Analysis and Applications (3 credits)

An introduction to supply and demand, consumer behaviour, production theory, market structure and income distribution theory at the university level.

3. ECON 221 Economic History (3 credits)

Economic Development Survey. The evolution of economic institutions and the process of economic growth. Topics include demographic change, agricultural institutions, financial and industrial organization, technological change, and the expansion of trade and markets.

4. ECON 223 Political Economy of Trade Policy (3 credits)

This course introduces students to the economics of international trade, what constitutes good trade policy, and how to decide on trade policy. The course examines Canadian trade policy since 1945, including GATT, the Automobile Agreement, the Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA, and concludes with a special topic on trade policy.
