Leadership Skills Analysis
This assignment will help you increase your level of self-awareness as well as develop your analytical and
critical thinking skills, both of which are essential components of leadership. Login into CONNECT and click
the link to ‘Course wide resources and additional activities’. Click the self-assessment link called ‘Do you have
what it takes to be a leader?’ to assess how your results reflect your leadership style.
Some of the aspects you might address in your analytical essay:
Was there any new/revealing information from the test results?
What are some key strengths and weaknesses that you can attribute to your leadership? Were you
aware of them before, how will they inform your leadership?
Recall: 1) your previous achievements attributed to your successful usage of these strengths,
2) any relevant problematic situations you faced, that resulted from any of those weaknesses
How can you further capitalize on your strengths and compensate for your weaknesses in future?
What ways of communicating with others work best for you? Why?
What are typical occupations and career paths associated with your personality type? Have you been
pursuing one of them already? Would you like to change your career path if you are given a chance?
What leadership styles fit you best? What specific actions might help you further develop your
leadership styles, what techniques most suitable for you?
Did your results increase your level of self-awareness? Did you get a fresh perspective of your
leadership?
How can you use your results in your future life planning? Specifically, in setting career or leadership
goals?
IMPORTANT: You must write a smooth, succinct and coherent analysis, do NOT use a ‘questions
and answers’ format. Ensure that your results are thoroughly evaluated. Ultimately,
this is a course about leadership, accordingly, I will expect you to consider and
discuss leadership implications whenever they present themselves.
Requirements:
Your analysis must exhibit clarity, good writing, reflective and analytical skills appropriate for an MBA
level. MINIMUM word count requirements are: 2000 words, for example, could be considered within the
C range; no less than 2500 words may be considered within the B or A ranges with a maximum of 3000
words, all depended on the quality of your writing.
Your analysis must contain the following sections: introduction, main body, and, action plan along with
an appropriate conclusion summarizing the key points of your analysis.
Evaluation of test results, reflection on your experience and future action plans must be well aligned
with one another and relevant to your content.
Your analysis should employ relevant citations from the textbook and from other sources
You should not re-write test results; instead, use them in your analysis and refer to particular parts
wherever it is necessary.
You must cite all your work appropriately, you may avail yourself of ‘Grammarly’.
You will submit your assignment through the Turn-it-in assignment box from the course page.
Additional Considerations:
In general terms, when I read and assess your work, I also consider the following;
To what extent have you considered implication for leadership, implications for followership: how well
did you support your assertions, did you provide examples, personal insight, how well did you
contextualize the content, how well did you employ ‘terms of art’.
How well did you engage with the textbook – highlighted boxes, profiles and tables, why was there a
need to include additional research or sources.
Organization and critical thinking: how well did you contextualize your analysis, to what extent are your
opinions informed, how well did you organize your thoughts.
Style: how well did you adhere to APA standards, did you follow a consistent and logical style
throughout your assignment.
Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling: to what is extent is your assignment readable, to what extent did you
pay attention to your grammar, punctuation and spelling, to what extent have you demonstrated clarity
of thought, have you fully supported your conclusion.
