Final Assignment 3 : Selection of Projects

The Circumstances: You are employed by a company in Australia (Infrastruct Construction Pty Ltd) and the CEO has decided that the company should bid for work in a new area of business. The CEO requires an executive summary to submit to the Board that: describes the new area of business (sector) and its significant characteristics; and describes the major risks and opportunities of contracting; based on research into past projects in the sector selected.

Before you can commence this assignment you need to do some preliminary investigation. That investigation will involve research to find information about existing mostly finished  projects in the sector for which the CEO believes your company should consider bidding.

The projects that you select must be agreed with the Lecturer (by end of week 10 and will be marked up to 3 points ) and before you commence the assignment. 

For the purposes of this assignment you are to choose three (3) existing projects that are:

at least 80% complete, and not started prior to 1990.

an initial project value of at least $400 million

from the same sector

are approximately the same value,

built in Australia

from a sector related to the course that you are doing (eg Architects choose building projects).

The three (3) projects of the same sector and approximate value that you choose must be selected and submitted on Canvas before the due date. Submissions will be marked and commented on progressively up to the deadline date. Note: Only the first submission will be marked and if you are late without an acceptable reason, you will receive late penalty down to zero for this part of your final assignment.

Your submission must give a short description of each project including:

a one or two sentence description of the scope,

a representative photo

the location,

the Client and the main Contractors organisation name,

the project value 

when the project started and % complete or finish date,

NOTE: If too many students choose the same projects those who ask first with the above summary information will be accepted and the others will need to find alternative projects. So be early! You will be advised in marking comments if the projects you nominate are accepted, or not. Students in the same team must not choose the same topics.
