Design a 90-min story telling group work/story circle to facilitate participation and sharing of
stories. The group size is no more than 12 participants of mixed gender adults aged 60 and
above. The multi-cultural participants are all of Asian heritage and identify themselves as local
in a Singaporean context.
Question 1
a) Select a fairy tale or Traditional story. Provide the title of the selected fairy tale or
traditional story including variations in titles; provide the region or culture of origin;
compose a one-paragraph summary as an overview of the story. Identify the key
theme/themes you wish to address with your target audience. Demonstrate how you
would use this story as a prompt to engage the group to start their own personal story
telling journey.

b) Present your structure/outline for the Storytelling Circle clearly demonstrating time
durations allocated for each of FOUR (4) narrative arts strategies/activities for
participants to express their individual and group stories. Include other information
relating to the Storytelling Circle/groupwork: a write-up description so participants
are aware what they will experience; a description of your aims and purpose for
this strategy; provide instructions for participants; provide a timetable; list the
materials to be prepared; state your introductory and concluding remarks when
facilitating this Storytelling Circle.

Question 2
Explore and expand the roles of TWO (2) key characters in the story you have selected. Assess
and discuss the application of ‘point of view’ perspectives and the therapeutic outcomes.

Question 3
Select FOUR (4) storytelling strategies that encompass both verbal and non-verbal modes.
Assess the therapeutic benefits of each storytelling strategy in relation to the Storytelling Circle
facilitation. Critique the role of ONE (1) verbal and ONE (1) non-verbal strategy utilized in a
therapeutic setting.

Question 4
Describe and demonstrate the proposed verbal and non-verbal strategies/activities for
documenting and reflecting as a process for the client that may support their exploration of
feelings, behaviour and thoughts. Propose FOUR (4) considerations for the ethical and cultural
aspects of telling and sharing stories in a group setting.
