Employee engagement relates to the level of commitment, passion and loyalty employees demonstrate towards their work and organisation. Contemporary research indicates that the more engaged an employee is, the higher their performance and productivity.
Mercer’s Global Talent Trends 2022, Mercer’s Global Talent Trends 2022, which is based on data from 10910 employees, HR leaders, and C-suite executives, indicates a progression from employees wanting an organisation to meet their basic, psychological and well-being needs towards also wanting to help them attain higher life experience and fulfilment needs.
The report is titled The rise of the relatable organisation’, highlighting 5 key trends, including employees wanting to know that the organisation contributes to the common good and supports individual and community needs. As Ephraim Patrick of Mercer suggests, people “no longer want to work for an organisation; they want to work with an organisation (Patrick 2022).
The 5 key trends are:
1. Reset for relevance. Build resilience by leading with values and an adaptive design 2. Work in partnership. Create equitable, transparent and rewarding partnerships 3. Delivery of total well-being. Nurture a healthy workforce with benefits that matter 4. Built for employability Meet future workforce needs with a skills-based organisation 5. Harness Collective energy Unlock potential with human-centre work environments
