REFLECTION ONE
Based on the reading, why are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives important to early childhood education in Australia?
For living and working in Australia within a childcare setting, knowing about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders is very important. From the readings, I
came out that, it is important to know aboriginal and Torres islander perspectives because it helps us to provide support to the children based on their
cultural background. It helps us to respect, and develops a sense of belonging to the child, and can provide a good learning environment to the children.
We will know about the areas that need to be included in the curriculum of the child regarding their beliefs. This helps children to know about their
knowledge systems, traditions, ceremonies, lore, culture, and history and children develop empathy and respect toward the indigenous culture.
Also, if we know about the history of Indigenous peoples, helps children develop empathy and respect for Indigenous cultures, and promote inclusion.
Maintaining inclusion in a classroom is one of the parts of respecting each other culture. We can also develop our professional knowledge and skills, and
by working in partnership with children, families, communities, and other professionals, educators continually strive to find equitable and effective ways
to ensure that all children have opportunities to achieve Learning Outcomes and flourish.
