Welcome. Today, I wanted to look at the PMA question and explain the question in detail. To you, in case you have any questions or there is any confusion that exists on exactly what the question means. So I felt that stating. In very basic terms. To establish clarity would be an ideal situation to help you and to support you towards completing a successful and enjoyable PNA.So let’s look at the questions.First of all.Questions 50% each of the total PM A mark. This is marked separately from the in module assessment. So 2 questions.Question one and I’m.Gonna read the slide for you.So you understand exactly what the question is.Question 150 marks detail and examine how pick and methods have changed in today’s fulfillment centers or distribution centers in reaction to the rapid growth of e-commerce.Detail and examine how pick a method to changed in today’s fulfillment and distribution centers in reaction to the rapid growth in e-commerce.That’s the first part. The second part.Propose what advances in technology and and equipment. We will most likely see being introduced into the fulfillment center or distribution center operations in the next 5 to 10 years.Select one future technology you’ve proposed and predicted impact on future fulfillment center distribution center operations. So that’s the question.Question mark.Question 2.Choose an online fashion retailer operating in the United Kingdom market.Apply appropriate models and or techniques to determine. And explain. The reasons behind the retailers fulfillment center or distribution center network. And then provide analysis as to whether these fulfillment centers or distribution centers are in the best location to service.2 part question.50% each. Therefore, apply the same effort and waiting. To each of those questions. To obtain maximum marks.Question one in detail.Determine an. Examine our. Pick a method to change in today’s fulfillment or distribution centers in reaction to the rapid growth in e-commerce. So what’s changed? We are seeing the development and the increase in speed in the move from business to business to business to customer distribution methods and models. And we’re seeing the growth in e-commerce. Think Asos think Amazon think companies like this.So what’s changing? In the PIC methods. What did we do?What are we doing now? Where is it likely to transition to?Think about your pick.Processes and your operational processes details. That you’ve been provided with.In the module.Second part, propose what advances in technology and equipment. We are most likely to see being introduced into fulfillment center and distribution center operations in the next 5 to 10 years. What’s the new technology that enables the ecommerce revolution to take place within fulfillment centers? What are we seeing? On what’s developing, think about the future of warehousing.Think about the pick processes. Think about the automation, think about some of the guest lectures that we’ve had.The answers are there. And of those technologies that you’ve discussed? You now select one.Of those technologies. That you think. Is gonna have an impact. In future fulfillment, center or distribution center operations. So you talk about the bigger picture, you talk about technology trends.Welcome.And what we’re seeing and then you select one of the technologies that you’ve talked about and you.Talk about it in.More depth. It’s a joined up question and some top tips for success to pass and to transition through to achieving a distinction the UK only.So choose a company.Within the UK, there has a UK fulfillment or distribution center. Don’t pick one. In Spain, don’t pick one in Germany, don’t pick 1:00. In the USA, it’s a question about the UK market. There are lots of examples.A lot of examples that have been provided and a lot of detail and information that’s been provided within the module, but it is for you to select.A company.UK market only. Then you gotta ask yourself, how have the distributions changed and evolved? And the evolution is the key step.So what’s happened?Recently in distribution and fulfillment centers. Was talked about it. We’ve studied it.You’ve looked at it.And then what?Technology do you see?Supporting that change? So what’s actually? So what actually changed in the process and what technology is driving or supporting or facilitating that change? And there are lots of technologies to choose from.Lots of sources and resources that have been provided to you.Take the key elements. From that. And apply. To an example.Using real and relevant data.To illustrate and support your answer.OK, so you got the key elements from the theory.Choose an example.Apply what you’ve learned both the.Models and theory and the technology and apply it.To a real example. And you’ll do well. What do I recommend? Well, references.

Speaker 2

00:08:02

As a minimum.

Speaker 1

00:08:05

You need at least 10 references. To do well on this question.10 relevant and applicable meaningful. And value adding references.Correctly formatted correctly applied and correctly listed.Using the Harvard method.

Speaker 3

00:08:28

I’m visual aids.

Speaker 1

00:08:31

We’re talking about warehouse processors, and we’re talking about technology. So don’t tell me what a robot looks like.Show me a photograph or a picture or diagram of robotic technology, if that’s one of the ones that you select. If you talk about automatic put away in retrieval systems, don’t describe them to me.Show me a visual aid that supports your discussion points and your analysis. So that’s question one.Take it from start to end.UK market only.Follow it through to a logical conclusion.Question 2.It’s the other 50% of the PMMA. So give it equal weighting equal wording. To question one. What are we asking here? Choose an online fashion retailer operating in the.United Kingdom market.Sound familiar? Apply appropriate models and or techniques to determine and explain the reasons behind the retailers.Distribution network, their fulfillment centers and their distribution centers network.Where are they?Location analysis. And provide analysis as to whether the fulfillment centers and distribution centers are in the best locations to serve the customers.I’d prefer.Evolving question.Top tips?UK market only company with the UK online Retail and UK fulfillment Center distribution network. The distribution centers are in the UK and they serve the UK market. Not Spain, not Germany, not Argentina, not the USA.UK based question. As you’re studying in the UK.And you have access to multiple examples of UK.Distribution center networks.Apply warehouse location analysis models. To the example company you choose. So you choose an.Example and you apply the theory. And the models and the techniques and the approaches. That you’ve studied, that you’ve read?About and that you’ve learned about during the SWT module, you apply them to the example.Take the key elements and apply them to the example using real and relevant data and information. And there’s lots of it out there. It’s easy.To research and to find. And a lot of it has been provided already.Within the model.Minimum of 10 references is suggested. It’s a visual question. It’s like a Business Report. So 6.Visual aids are suggested as a minimum.Wanted to take some time to give you some guidance around the PMMA assessment process. And achieving a successful outcome for your PM A on the S WT module. So first of all, the assessment process you PMMA will be backed by myself, Gary Bilsborough, the module owner and some of the tutors who you’ve already met during the course of the module. That’s the short that everybody who marks your PMMA is a subject matter expert. With deep expertise in the subject. And all of the topics. That you will be writing about. And remember that because it’s important. We are the audience that you are communicating to people who have an understanding. So you can assume. That level of knowledge and understanding exists and therefore write and report at the appropriate level 7.Masters level, supply chain and logistics management at the University of Warwick. The marking criteria is standard and is set in the university regulations. And you can see the link to that.Your PMA is moderated? So it sends checked and validated. At the marketing has been fair and has been consistent and is accurate. And then that’s it. It’s signed off. You’ve had the subject matter expert and an experienced marker and somebody involved in the module delivery was marked to PMMA and it’s been moderated by a knowledgeable and experienced moderator. You can be sure. That the Marks and the feedback you’ve received are timely.Accurate and fair.An aimed at helping you to improve. On your learning journey here at Warwick. What’s a word count? There is a specified word count for your PMMA. So both of these questions are required to be answered and they both carry 50 marks or 50% of the total PMMA. This is separate from the in module assessment that you’ve already undertaken. And perhaps received a mark or score for. What is the word count 3200 words in total? So 1600 words per question. With the 10%.Tolerance level, so you know.160 words plus or minus. And remember. The word count includes everything in the main body of the text, and that’s your head and your citations, your quotes, your lists, etcetera. So everything in the main body of the text.Title page, table of contents, table of Tables, Table of figures, content within figures and tables. The list of references and any appendices are excluded from that count.

Speaker 4

00:15:47

OK.

Speaker 1

00:15:48

So where and data and details?Proportionately included in a data table would not be in the word count. But be clear. You can’t write an essay put into a table and expect it to be excluded from the word.Count it must be.Proportionate and appropriate, and the market and the moderator will make call on that and a judgement. For the marking guidelines, refer to the full time MSC student Internet pages under PMMA or post module assignments and there’s a link there, but always go onto the university website and you’ll have the most up to date information. So where you gonna get your resources from? Because this isn’t just about writing.A PMA. It’s about researching a PMA.And if you research a PMMA and correctly apply that research, then you’ll do well.So what would I say to you refer to the module reading list, look on the Moodle page.Look on the module teams page. And refer to the verbal PMMA guidance from the module tutor that’s delivered during the module. And you will recall that the module tutor.Mainly myself will say things like this will be important for your PMMA. You may wish to take a note of this or highlight these slides. And they also.Point to resources that have included on the teams page or on Moodle and indicate that they may be particularly relevant.Towards your success in a PMA.So if you’re paying attention, if you’re attentive in your class and you participate fully, the clues and the guidance is there. And I do make available a lot of resource.

Speaker 5

00:17:57

And umm.

Speaker 1

00:18:01

To help you not just in achieving a successful PMMA, but in developing a deep understanding and appreciation of the subject matter as a whole. So what are the guidance? And what about the Lenin outcomes that you’re asked? To match. So for this PMMA.It’s learning objectives 12 and 3.Lend an objective one. Evaluate warehouse roles, functions, operations, procedures and processes and based on this provide a comprehensive explanation and informed judgment regarding the use of different types of warehouses and distribution centers across today’s supply chain. If you answer the question, you’ve satisfied that learning objective.Land an Objective 2. Select appropriate techniques to improve warehouse processes and operations, proposing sound recommendations and critiques about how technology, equipment, and automation can be implied applied. If you answer the question, you’ve satisfied that learning objective.Land an Objective 3. Propose and analyse the criteria required to decide on the most appropriate location for a warehouse within a supply chain and distribution network. If you answer the questions you have satisfied that learning objective. And at this level of study, it should be clear.Where this fits in to the question and into the required answer. And if you’re unsure, then. Please ask. Please ask in advance if you are unsure on the learning objective. How to satisfy it or where to obtain that information from?So that’s some PMA guidance. My top tips I’ve got really 3 top tips for you.

Speaker 6

00:20:10

Right.Sorry, I checked.

Speaker 1

00:20:16

The first one is read the question. What does the question say? What does the question ask for?Tip number 2. Understand the question. Break it down into its parts.Into individual sentences or requirements or requests.Understand the question. Look back at your notes. Look back at your research material, look back at the course content. And associate that with the understanding of the question. What’s the module tutor asking for? What’s the purpose and how does that fit with the learning objectives? And then top tip 3 is answer the question as you’ve been asked to.Meet the requirements of the question. Answer It in full. And apply.Learning objectives. To answering that question.Read the question, make sure you understand what you’ve read. And then answer the question. Follow the process. Follow the top tips that you’ve been given. Follow the guidance. And you’ll do well.So good PMA.In less troubled UT requires you to answer the questions and to include the following.A title page with your student number. The module name the lecturers name and any other documentation required by the university. And you’ve got guidance for that?

Speaker 7

00:21:52

And then.

Speaker 1

00:21:53

A content page. With a list of tables and figures and a list of abbreviations.WMS warehouse management system.WMS is 3 where is one word warehouse management system is 3 words. So a list of abbreviations and then apply your abbreviations correctly.Show me and show. The markers evidence of the appropriate level of research.Via background reading. The relevant texts and sources and remember a lot of the sources will be on the Internet.Wanna see evidence?Systemic and clear thinking.Yeah. And we wanna see good planning and organization.

Speaker 8

00:22:43

OK.

Speaker 1

00:22:46

Of your.PM a answer. After all, this is logistics and supply chain management, a logical, structured, planned. So we want to see the same logic applied to how you answer your question.

Speaker 9

00:23:07

How are you?

Speaker 1

00:23:07

When you’re writing.Ensure that it makes sense.

Speaker 10

00:23:11

That it’s clearly.

Speaker 1

00:23:12

And carefully presented. So proofread it.Every time you do a draft stop.Have a break. Come back.Read through and ensure that it all makes sense. And that you’ve checked your spelling and your grammar.Cedric flows so that.It reads well and remember who’s reading it.

Speaker 11

00:23:39

What else?

Speaker 1

00:23:41

A critical style of writing. What do I mean well?Something that compares and contrasts the main theories, the concepts and the arguments. What you’ve learned, what you’ve researched. With conclusions that are based in evidence and examples. You’re talking about technology. You’re talking about warehouse location. You’re talking about UK.Use examples and evidence those examples. It’s a really.Good way of doing it?A logical and well defined structure with headings and subheadings.Answer Question one in its parts and then answer question 2.Make it logical.Include visual aids. And if you’re gonna include visual aid, which I’m.Quite sure you will need to do to succeed. Ensure that they’re clearly labeled and well presented that any diagrams, any maps, any charts, any graphs, data tables, models, infographics, or other visual aids irrelevant.Do they link to the discussion or do they lead into the next section of the discussion? And are they scaled appropriately? If you included a map of the UK with the distribution center locations.Make sure it’s big enough, but we can actually see the locations and understand its relationship to the key infrastructure or location factors. And if you compare them like would like, then 2 appropriately scaled maps are very similar size, scale, complexity containing similar information. So that you can have a meaningful analysis and comparison.I want you to adhere to the usual academic standards, including the length and the word count and the timely submission. So get it in on time and in full. And as a reminder.Your reference list should include every source that you’ve included or cited in the text. And really, this needs to underpin the discussion throughout. The use of the relevant academic and industrial material and information to to support the context in which you are using it.In and answering the question to satisfy the learning objectives. And you need to use the Harvard approach. This is covering your SPA modules. So there’s 10 guidance points and 3 top tips.In support of a breakdown of what the question involves and entails. And I wish you every success. In constructing, in planning, and in managing for the delivery of your PNA, it’s not difficult. It just takes a little bit of thought. So we gonna get a little bit of extra.Help from if you need it.Well, as a postgraduate level student. You may have some concerns about your ability to write to the high standard that’s required. So here’s some information to help you with that.
