Individual contributions to Group Assessment
In your group assessment, it is important that group members share tasks equally, that no one
is having a ‘
free-ride‘. It is important that groups agree and divide tasks between members.
Your group can use the
Individual Contributions Matrix
(../../Assessment%201%20%E2%80%93%20Individual%20Contributions%20matrix.docx
?_&d2lSessionVal=dyz0EPlZtClTWfK941FryksPM&ou=1824413)
to assign and mark off the
tasks completed by different members of the group. Please submit this along with your report
to the dropbox, to show your instructor evidence of your individual contribution.
Define your topic
Organisation and Industry background information

Step 1: brainstorm potential research/project ideas with your team and discuss these
with your workshop facilitator. We will dedicate time in sessions for this.
1
2 Step 2:
Identify your initial area of interest. Then:

a
b
Do a quick literature search and find general articles related to your topic.
Aim to find a research direction that is relevant and achievable.
Consider what you want your research to tell you about your organisation, it’s
industry, and it’s broader local and global context.

c

d
e
Begin formulating a potential research question.
Are there any ethical and sustainability considerations to factor in?

Step 3: What is the context of your research? Provide background on your
organization and challenges it faces. Identify any relevant factors at play in the
industry. What is the importance and appropriateness of your topic to
management/society? What are the implications of the research?
1
Research Question(s)/Research Objectives
Begin literature review
Write Literature Review
PLEASE NOTE:
A minimum of 6-8 academic journal references is expected (depending on group size), journal
articles are preferable over textbooks and trade magazines. We are not expecting a detailed
literature review at this stage but would like you to demonstrate the direction of your research
so that your workshop leader can help you refine your topic.
A literature review should be your own work. If you make reference to concepts, other authors
have written or researched, you must acknowledge their work in text (i.e., make reference to
their work), using the
Harvard referencing system
(https://s3.amazonaws.com/libapps/sites/5024/docs/16314539/Harvard-main-examples.pdf?XAmz-ContentSha256=e3b0c44298fc1c149afbf4c8996fb92427ae41e4649b934ca495991b7852b855&X-AmzAlgorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-AmzCredential=0ED81C7CPQQADHEZG902%2F20160228%2Fus)(author, year of publication).
Step 4: Answer the what, why when and how of the research. What can it explore and
evaluate? What kinds of change can your research identify? What kinds of problems
can it address?
1
2 Step 5:
Develop a research question.
Step 6: Develop research objectives. Outline clearly what your research intends to
achieve. Outline the purpose and value of the research.
3
Step 7:
Based on the articles and resources that you’ve connected to your research
objectives, organize delegation of your literature review.
1
Step 8:
Begin reading and thematically organizing them. Each group member should
individually review at least two sources. Use the use the Individual Contributions
Matrix
(../../Assessment%201%20%E2%80%93%20Individual%20Contributions%20matrix.docx?
_&d2lSessionVal=dyz0EPlZtClTWfK941FryksPM&ou=1824413)
to show evidence
of each member’s contribution to the literature review.
2

1 Step 9: Collate everyone’s research.
Step 10: Write the review based on the group’s thematic organization. Group
members may be equally responsible for writing parts of the literature review and
ensuring that the writing is cohesive and logically sequenced.
2
Step 11:
Finalise your report, with sections organized under headings. Include a table
of contents.
3

SELF-ENROL INTO A GROUP!
You should have formulated groups within your session, so the next thing
to do is to self-enrol
online via VU Collaborate.
Please follow the instructions in the student help guide
(https://studentvucollaboratehelp.vu.edu.au/student-guides/learningspaces/groups/622-using-and-managing-groups) for group self enrolment
