Part 1: Limitations and solutions

For this part of the assessment, you need to use critical thinking concepts to develop solutions to two workplace limitations/problems. Outline your responses in the table below. Steps to take include:

  • Analyse workplace practices and identify two workplace limitations
  • Source information for solutions
  • Develop solutions for the two limitations you identified
  • Describe two critical thinking concepts

1.1 Analyse workplace practices and identify two workplace limitations

Summarise two workplace limitations you have identified. Use two different methods to find inefficiencies, limitations, or problems (for example, talk to stakeholders, look at numerical data or ask a set of questions).

  • Source information for solutions

Research relevant emerging technologies and practices work to identify possible solutions to the issues. Your research sources must be from a range of reputable and verified sources. Complete the table below with your responses.

  • create at least five questions to ask which will guide your research and analysis
  • note down the source you consulted for the information
  • evaluate the information received.

  • Develop solutions to the two limitations you identified

Using critical thinking concepts, generate and analyse two to four alternative solutions for workplace inefficiency, limitation or problem.

  • describe each alternative solution in detail (for example, using a flow chart, words, or a series of pictures)
  • use numerical data, for example, use the data from the case study
  • describe the success criteria that you will use to evaluate the solutions.

Success criteria that you will use to evaluate the solutions.

To evaluate the success of the solutions generated using design thinking and root cause analysis, it is important to establish clear success criteria. The success criteria should align with the objectives of the solutions and be measurable to determine if the solutions have been effective in addressing workplace limitations. Some potential success criteria that could be used to evaluate the solutions include:

Effectiveness: This refers to the extent to which the solutions have successfully addressed workplace limitations. Success criteria could include measures such as reduction in errors or defects, increased efficiency, improved quality, or increased customer satisfaction.

Feasibility: This refers to the practicality of implementing the solutions in the workplace. Success criteria could include measures such as cost-effectiveness, ease of implementation, and scalability.

Sustainability: This refers to the ability of the solutions to continue delivering benefits over the long term. Success criteria could include measures such as maintenance costs, environmental impact, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

User satisfaction: This refers to the degree to which the solutions meet the needs and preferences of the stakeholders involved. Success criteria could include measures such as user adoption rates, feedback from users, and user satisfaction surveys.

Return on investment: This refers to the financial benefits generated by the solutions compared to the costs of implementing them. Success criteria could include measures such as return on investment, cost savings, and revenue growth.

By establishing clear success criteria, it is possible to evaluate the effectiveness of the solutions generated through design thinking and root cause analysis. This can help ensure that the solutions are meeting the objectives of the organization and providing tangible benefits to the workplace

  • Describe two critical thinking concepts

Compare and contrast two critical thinking concepts/approaches that you used to find solutions to workplace limitations. Include descriptions of the key features/characteristics of the concepts/approaches.

Part 2: Develop a proposal

Use one of the limitations identified in Part 1 to develop a proposal to present the solutions to a wide range of stakeholders. You must write clearly and ensure that the content, format, and tone are appropriate to your audience to achieve its purpose. Your proposal needs to cover the following in the report template below:

Overview

Summarise the workplace limitation.

Identify and justify your solution

Describe your chosen solution for the workplace inefficiency, limitation, or problem.

  • Why did you choose it?
  • How does it meet the legislation and organisational policy requirements?
  • Identify the Solutions and analyse their Advantages and Disadvantages, opportunities, and threats.

Decision-making framework

Describe how you used a decision-making framework, according to organisational policies and procedures, in developing your proposal

  • Which framework did you use?
  • What were the steps you took?

Briefly discuss how you implemented the decision-making framework.

Legislation and organisational requirements

Develop a Legislative requirement for the organisation.

Part 3: Presentation

You need to present your proposal to stakeholders. Meet online in a simulated presentation and record it for submission. Your presentation must include:

  • provide an overview of workplace limitations
  • present solutions and your analysis
  • justify the decision-making process
  • seek advice and feedback from the stakeholders on your proposal
  • take note of the feedback provided by the stakeholders

Your presentation should last between 5 – 7 minutes. During the presentation, you need to demonstrate the following communication skills:

  • speaking clearly and concisely
  • using non-verbal communication to assist with understanding
  • asking questions to identify required information
  • responding to questions as required
  • use a presenting style and vocabulary to suit the audience and situation
  • seek to establish interpersonal connections

It would help if you referred to the criteria provided in the Part 5 Observation Checklist to understand what skills you need to demonstrate in this section of the assessment. This Checklist outlines the criteria your Teacher/Assessor will be marking you.

Recording and submitting video evidence.

When submitting video evidence, you must:

  • provide a video clearly meeting all requirements listed below and in the Observation Checklist
  • ensure you have access to the equipment and resources required to participate in the demonstration
  • follow the Video recording instructions (pdf), including useful tips, links to resources, and a demonstration video.
