Assessment Task
Prepare an 8–10-minute presentation, including PowerPoint slides on a topic selected from the list
of topics provided by your learning facilitator in Week 4. This presentation requires you to research
and critically evaluate a selected Project Portfolio Management theory and praxis and supports your
preparation for Assessment 3.
Please refer to the Instructions for details on how to complete this task.
Context
Project management (PM) professionals regularly communicate with stakeholders and team
members to present data and information that will assist them in their roles in the context of project
delivery. As a PM professional, you need to be confident and able to present concisely within a
defined timeframe using relevant media to support your presentation. You will regularly meet with
management and governance groups at all levels to advise on the status of projects and programs.
You will also be called on to review, appraise and research key issues and provide relevant
recommendations in a format that allows the recipients to easily understand and digest the content
and key recommendations. In Assessment 1, you used an infographic as your medium. In this second
assessment, you are required to use PowerPoint slides to support your presentation.
Your knowledge and understanding of the topic that you are presenting needs to be at a level at
which you can talk freely and not read from the presentation medium, regardless of the media used.

Presenting to a governance group, such as a Project, Program or Portfolio Steering Committee,
demands an ability to assure stakeholders that you have control over all the issues and confidence in
the relevance of your recommendations. Reading from the presentation slides implies that you may
not have the required level of understanding and knowledge about the topic, which could cause the
stakeholders to doubt your ability to successfully manage the project. This may cause the
stakeholders to challenge reports, statements or recommendations that are made. Thus, you need
to confidently deliver the presentation with knowledge derived from extensive research, an analysis
and an understanding of the topics under discussion.
This assessment allows you to demonstrate your presentation skills, including your ability to present
within the allocated time and prepare effective supporting and supplementary presentation media.
You will also use this assessment to supplement the learnings of your peers/classmates by
presenting a topic that will be beneficial to the preparation of Assessment 3. This means that the
research of your topic and your presentation method is of the utmost importance to all members of
the class.
Instructions
1. Select a topic from the list of topics provided by your learning facilitator in Week 4.
2. Review the contents and resources of Modules 1,2 3 and 4 and any additional resources and
research that you find relevant and that will add value to your presentation.
3. Prepare an 8–10 minute presentation using PowerPoint as supporting media to address the
selected topic. You are required to research, critically evaluate the selected Project Portfolio
Management or Project Management Office theory and praxis and present your findings.
4. Please review the Academic Skills page on Blackboard for Oral Presentations and AudioVisual Presentation skills in preparation for this assessment.
5. The number of slides should be appropriate to the length of the presentation. Follow
presentation best practice to ensure that content, layout and presentation techniques are
effective in delivering your message. You should not read from your slides but should speak
based on the knowledge you have acquired in researching your topic.
6. You should practise delivering the presentation so that you are comfortable with the
content and the technology regardless of whether you are recording or presenting live in
class.
Note
At the discretion of the learning facilitator, your presentation can be delivered in class or by
posting to the Discussion Forum. Options can be combined to suit the class size, delivery and
schedule.
7. Your presentation will be assessed based on the relevance of the content in relation to the
selected topic and PM theory and praxis, your critical analysis and recommendations and
your confident and timely delivery. Detailed criteria for this assessment are found in the
Assessment Rubric.

Submission Options
Option 1—Presentation in Class
• You will present your findings in the form of a presentation to your classmates during a class
(online or face to face).
• Prepare your media in the form of a PowerPoint presentation.
• References should be cited in the media.
• Your presentation should be approximately 8–10 minutes in length. Presentations that are
longer than 8–10 minutes may not be allowed to continue.
• You are required to submit the PowerPoint slides (in native pptx format, not in pdf) via the
assessment submission link before your presentation. The presentation should be saved
with a file name that adopts the following format:
PROJ6018_Assessment_2_your_name_studentid.pptx.
Option 2—Recorded Presentation
• Prepare your media in the form of a recorded PowerPoint presentation.
• References should be cited in the slides and should be noted in the recording.
• Your recorded presentation should be approximately 8–10 minutes in length.
• Submit the recording in native pptx format via the assessment submission link. The
presentation should be saved with a file name that adopts the following format:

Submission Instructions
Option 1—In-Class Presentations
Before the in-class presentation, please submit your PowerPoint slides using the Assessment link in
the main navigation menu in PROJ6018 Project, Portfolio and Program Management. The link will
take you to the discussion forum where you will create your own discussion thread and attach the
.pptx file. The learning facilitator will provide feedback via the Grade Centre in the LMS portal.
Feedback can be viewed in My Grades. Please note that you will not be able to see other students’
submissions until you submit your presentation.
Option 2—Recorded Presentation
Submit your recorded presentation using the Assessment link in the main navigation menu in
PROJ6018 Project, Portfolio and Program Management. The link will take you to the discussion
forum where you will create your own discussion thread and attach the .pptx file. The learning
facilitator will provide feedback via the Grade Centre in the LMS portal. Feedback can be viewed in
My Grades. Please note that you will not be able to see other students’ submissions until you submit
your presentation.
If your submission includes additional items (e.g., illustrations and recordings), you may attach these
by clicking ‘add content’ and selecting ‘insert local files’; click ‘Browse Your Computer’ to attach
your extra files. Then, click the ‘Final Submit’ button. Please note that you will only be able to submit
once, so you should add your additional content before clicking the ‘Final Submit’ button.

Note that you may need to compress the graphics and pictures in your presentation to allow for file
size allowances on the LMS portal. For further information regarding how to compress graphics and
pictures in PowerPoint, please refer to the ‘Help’ section in the application.
