Purpose The purpose of this assessment is to provide students with an opportunity to
analyse and argue an ethical imperative in healthcare pertinent to their practice
as a healthcare professional.

Task Students are required to record and upload an oral presentation of a structured
ethical argument, allowing demonstration analysis and debate of an ethical
issue in healthcare.
1. Select one of the following ethical concepts as the focus for your
presentation:
a. Veracity
b. Futility
c. Confidentiality
d. Consent
2. Briefly
introduce and define your selected ethical concept as a general
ethical concept in society.
3.
Discuss your selected ethical concept as it relates to healthcare:
Provide details of the viewpoint you are taking
Justify your viewpoint based on evidence
4.
Explain why this issue is a critical concept for ethical healthcare delivery.
5.
Identify sources of ethical disagreement that relate to your selected topic
– consider the concepts of absolutism, relativism, and pluralism as a
starting point.
6.
Describe how your selected ethical concept relates to your professional
code of ethics/code of conduct.
7.
Conclude your presentation with a brief overview of the presentation and
the viewpoint shared. Do not include new information in the conclusion

8. Provide a list of the references that you have used to formulate your
discussion and build your presentation using APA 7
th edition.
The oral presentation must be recorded and uploaded by following the
instructions available to you in the HLSC220 LEARNING MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM site.

Minimum References There is no set number of references that must be used as a minimum for this
task, but as a rough guide only, if you have utilized less than 10-12 unique
quality peer-reviewed sources then you have not read widely enough.
All arguments must be supported using a variety of high-quality primary
evidence. Avoid using any one source repetitively.
Age of References Most references for this task should be published within the last 5 years,
however the appropriate use of older evidence sources (e.g. seminal theoretical
ethical work) is acceptable.
Alphabetical Order References are arranged alphabetically by author family name
Hanging Indent Not required here as PowerPoint doesn’t like doing this.

Spacing Double spacing the entire reference list, both within and between entries
ADMINISTRATION
Late Penalties Late penalties will be applied from 02:01pm on the 19thApril 2023, incurring 5%
penalty of the maximum marks available up to a maximum of 15% in total.
Assessment tasks that are submitted more than three calendar days after the
due date or extended due date will not be allocated a mark.

An assignment is submitted 12 hours late and is initially marked at 60 out of 100.
A 5% penalty is applied (5% of 100 is 5 marks). Therefore, the student receives
55 out of 100 as a final mark.
