PUN102 | Assessment 1
The task:
An analytical report on a case/settlements listed in the US-EPA Civil and Clean-up Enforcement Cases
and Settlements
or the VIC-court proceedings website, respectively. Any case in these websites can
be selected provided it focuses on a chemical, biological or physical hazard.
Each student will choose a case and will prepare a report according to the instructions below. Once
selected, each student should post the title of the selected case with a very rationale for this choice.
Two students cannot assess the same project therefore each student needs to check his project has
not been already chosen – from reviewing the discussion forum “Assessment 1 – list of projects”
Instructions:
A. Choose a development project from the website above and then:
Register you project in the discussion forum “Assessment 1 – list of projects” (link in the
assessment 1 folder)
Create a new thread in the discussion forum with the project title and your name
in the discussion, provide a brief explanation of why you choose the project and/or your
interest in the project
B. Develop your report with the following structure (including the headings):
1.
Title
2. Hazard: Identify the toxic agent/substance focus of the report
3.
Introduction:
a) Introduce the case study (activities, scope, population affected/benefited, Academic interest
from a toxicological point of view).
b) Explain how this case relates to hazard identified above
b) Discuss the relevance of this case for the health, safety and environment field
c) Provide a brief summary of how your report and analysis was done (what methods, research,
sources, analyses you used)

Risk assessment: Based on your research, provide the main known toxicological characteristics of
the agent/substance: sources, exposure pathways, target organs/systems, biodisponibility, lethal
dose (if known), etc…
5.
Impact assessment: Identify and discuss the impacts considering at least two dimensions:
Health impacts
Environmental impacts
(you can include other dimensions such as occupational, environmental health, etc).
Include a rational (reasons/justifications) and support your reasons/justifications with citations.
6.
List the relevant legislation related to the project and provide a brief rationale for the inclusion
of each legislation (
at least 3 legislation pieces).
