You will examine the consequence of human factors in relation to the incident and impact on key stakeholders.

You will propose recommendations to address key human oversight from the incident.

The scrutiny panel will take place in week 6.

The schedule for week 6 will be available on Canvas in week 4.

MARKING CRITERIA:

Opening Remarks – Structure/clarity of communication/flow of discussion – clear introduction setting the context of the study – in terms of engagement, creativity and making key headline opening arguments (20%)

Scrutiny itself – marks will be awarded for presenting further arguments, clarifying consequences of specific human and anthropometric factors. It is important that the discussion stays focused on the case study, consequences of specific human factors and impact on stakeholders. Every argument should be backed up with effective evidence (and triangulation of evidence) – case studies, statistics, newspaper articles, industry reports and scientific literature etc should be used to support discussion points. The articulation and depth of analysis/synthesis relating to the motion are critical here. (40%)

Recommendations – marks will be awarded for presenting key recommendations as a result of scrutinising the incident. Clear connection should be made to the findings, discussion points and proposed recommendations and the recommendations should be supported by evidence of good practice. (15%)

Engage in the scrutiny of other stakeholders’ presentations: You will be required to examine the quality, appropriateness, and credibility of other stakeholders. The articulation and fluency of your questioning will equate to 15%

References – quality, range, and extensiveness of references – references should also include datasets (indexes, statistics, industry reports etc). The currency of the data (how recent is the data) and the triangulation of references (cross-referencing data to add further justification to points) are critical. Marks for references will also be embedded with the scrutiny discussion itself, but the extent, presentation, currency, and quality of the references will account for 10%.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Critically review the importance of human and anthropometric factors in aviation

Critically review the link between specific aviation disasters and human factors

Evaluate airline practices in managing human error in order to showcase best practice.

SKILLS OUTCOMES:

The skills outcomes to be developed by completing this assignment can be found here.

GENERAL ASSIGNMENT GUIDANCE:

Teamwork and Its Assessment

Should this assignment require you to work as part of a team, you will receive an individual grade based upon your performance as well as personalised feedback. The module leader will explain how your individual grade and feedback will be determined.

Importance of Word Count and Presentation Timings

Assignment word counts and presentation timings should always be observed. Ignoring a word count increases significantly the risk of your work losing marks because it lacked structure, flow, focus and clarity.
