<p9nml_neb”>I. Overview
This module provides a bridge between A-level Mathematics and University Mathematics. Some material will be similar to that in A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, but will be dealt with in greater depth, and some material will be new. Topics of study include functions, limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, and ordinary differential equations.
One of the prerequisites for MATH1049, MATH1057, MATH1058, MATH1060 and MATH3090
Two Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing this module, you will be able to:
- Be able to understand the concept of integrals and be able to apply different integration methods to find the area under the curve
- Inequalities that can handle real numbers exactly
- Can understand the definitions of continuity and differentiability, and can distinguish between continuous functions.
- Can understand the definition of limits and can use the algebra of limits, l’Hopital’s rule, etc. to determine the limits of simple expressions
- Ability to solve a series of first and second order ordinary differential equations
- Be able to state and apply the median value theorem, Rolle’s theorem and the mean value theorem
