Assignment Instructions for “The Necklace”

In a Word document and following MLA guidelines, please complete the following:

1) Write a summary of the story. Imagine you are writing to an audience not familiar with the story, being sure to include names and roles of main characters and the title of the story in this paragraph. (DO NOT USE THE TITLE OF THE STORY AS YOUR TITLE!!)

2) For each of the questions below, please begin with a ONE SENTENCE THESIS STATEMENT (see handouts for guidance), followed by 2-3 sentences that support your thesis. Your thesis statements should not begin with “yes” or “no”. EXAMPLE: The audience should sympathize with Madame Loisel. OR: The audience should not sympathize with Madame Loisel.
