Assessment 2 Task Instructions
Produce a business research plan to address the Management or HRM issue presented by the Client in the class.
Weighting 60%
Type Individual
Word limit 2,500 words +/- 10% (excluding reference list and cover page)
Overview
The business research plan contains similar elements to the business research proposal, but it is much further developed. That means, you will have to provide more in-depth literature review and select two, instead of one, perspectives. The perspectives need to be different to those you selected in assessment 1. The research question needs to address a business issue, faced by the organisation, presented by the Client in the class. The research question needs to be grounded in the previous theoretical and conceptual work. You will need to provide detailed elaboration on the chosen research methods including discussion on how you plan to conduct data analysis. Your elaboration of the ethical considerations would need to be much further developed and justified, compared to assessment 1. Your business research plan needs to provide planned research deliverables and benefits to the organisation, which consider the economic, social, and environmental consequences, as well as the research timeline.
Business Research Plan template
Business Research Plan title
Keep it short and informative.
Not included in the word count.
Introduction (approx. 300 words)
Provide background information about the organisation and the challenges the organisation is facing.
Provide a clear, concise statement of the business issue you are addressing.
Research question (approx. 50 words)
State the specific research questionLinks to an external site. that you aim to answer. Ensure the research question reflects the business issue. Remember you are trying to convince stakeholders that this question is worth asking (and answering).
Literature review (approx. 700 words)
Conduct literature review covering of what is already known in regards to the business issue.
Reflect on the business issue and chose to frame your response based on two perspectives from the HRM and/or management literatures. Selecting more than two perspectives is unlikely to offer the depth of analysis to demonstrate knowledge of the selected area.
Revisit your research question after conducting the literature review. It is likely that the insights you gained from reviewing literature will lead to altering your research question.
Although you will follow the same steps as you did for assessment 1, your literature review will be more detailed and developed compared to that in your Business Research Proposal (Assessment 1)
Research Method (approx. 500 words)
Explain how you will design the business research. Qualitative or quantitativeLinks to an external site.? Primary or secondary sources?
Describe in detail the ways in which you propose to collect data (e.g. survey, interviews, focus group, review of documents, observations etc.), and justify your selection.
Who are your participants?, how do you plan to approach them?, How many participants will you approach? Make sure to justify your selections.
When, where and how will you collect data?
Are there any limitations to the research method you selected?
Data Analysis (approx. 300 words)
Explain how are you planning to analyse the data. E.g. what analytical tools and techniques you propose to use? Justify your selection.
How are you planning to ensure analytical rigour?
Ethical considerations (approx. 200 – 400 words)
Indicate what particular ethical issues or problems you will need to consider when undertaking the research. For example: how will you obtain informed consent from the individuals and/or organisation? how will you ensure participant confidentiality? are there any risks, stemming from the research, to the study participants or the organisation? How do you propose managing these risks? How will you manage the research data?
Socially responsible research deliverables and benefits (approx. 300 – 500 words)
Propose 2-3 specific deliverables from the research.
Make sure that the research deliverables and benefits to participants, the organisation and/or society consider socially responsible business practices, and are supported by relevant sources.
Clearly discuss what new insights you will contribute to dealing with the business issue. How organisation can benefit from these insights and who they are relevant to.
Explain how will your findings help improve an existing process, inform policy, or make a case for a concrete change to address the business issue.
This section is more detailed and concreate compared to your proposed practical contributions described in assessment 1.
