Read the Aboriginal and Torres strait islander section in the EYLF v2. EYLF-2022-V2.0.pdf (acecqa.gov.au) (pages 16-17). Based on the reading, why are
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives important to early childhood education in Australia?
It is very important to consider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives to early childhood education in Australia. In order to advance
Reconciliation, embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in all educators’ philosophy and practice is important. In addition to that,
this also leads to closing the gap and fulfills the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders children’s right to know about their histories, knowledge systems,
and cultures and languages (EYLF-2022-V2.0.Pdf, 2022). Other children will know who were the owners of the land, and show respect towards the
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures. They will also not take the opportunity to be in the land where they are for granted.
Embedding aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives is a shared responsibility of approved providers, educators and other professionals working
in early childhood educational settings. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the longest surviving Indigenous culture and they are the
custodians of this land. Children should be able to learn about the relationships and continual connections to country and community where they learn
and play as well as the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people-past and present- should be acknowledged and valued in children’s
learning. Being an educator, I would like to communicate with the traditional owners of this land and learn about the ways by which I can embed their
perspectives in the planning and implementation of curriculum and programming. Learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
motivates children to promote curiosity and develop connections with their culture. Similarly, educators also grow their knowledge of kinship systems
and cultural connections in their local communities so that educators can build engaging reciprocal relationships between early childhood settings and
community.

Overall, embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in early childhood education settings promotes advancement of reconciliation and i
also encourages different perspectives and enhances all children’s experiences. It helps children to learn about what was there before and encourages the
to work together for what is to come in the future.
