Appendix 2: Assessment: Reflective Portfolio
Module Code & Title: BUS9716M Global Project Teams and MGT9645 Teams and
Leadership
Contribution to Final Module Mark: 100%
Description of Assessment Task and Purpose:
The assessment on this module is an individual reflective portfolio, equivalent to 3,500 words (+/-
10%).
You are expected to provide a set of written reflections which summarise the insights and
experiences you have gained from the learning activities on the module, supported by relevant
evidence. The portfolio should also include an action plan for future development. The purpose of
this assessment is to assess your ability to apply your theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
You are expected to link your work with the theories covered during the module and investigated
in your own supplemental research, evaluating this in light of your own experiences.
During the module, opportunities will be provided for diagnostic assessment and for you to gain
formative feedback on your performance and how it can be improved.
Please follow the following instructions carefully, including how to format and structure
your portfolio. No introduction or conclusion are required.
The reflective portfolio should be clearly divided into three sections:
PART A. (500 words)
Intended Career and Skills Gap Analysis
• Outline your intended future role/career and the skills and abilities which are needed to
be successful. Where possible, find a job advert or person specification for a similar role
on which to base your discussion.
• Reflect on your teamwork and leadership positions and experiences to date in order to
conduct a skills gap analysis. Your discussion is likely to focus on university group work and
employment experiences, but you can include voluntary work or even personal
experiences such as membership of sport teams if you wish.
o What did you learn from these past experiences about your own skills, abilities,
strengths and weaknesses? Provide supporting examples.
• The purpose of Part A is to identify skills you would like to develop in this module that
will be useful for your intended career, so this should be completed within the first two
weeks of starting the module.
PART B. (500 words)
Reflect on your experience of working as part of a team to deliver a project. Assess your ability to
estimate project parameters (including the required resources and constraints) to achieve project
objectives, and to consider teamwork and leadership theories within the context of a real-life
project.

You should draw on practical examples and support your analysis with relevant concepts and
theories of teamwork and leadership.
You should answer the questions below:
• What aspect of project management did you find most challenging on this project? How
did you manage this? (250 words)
• What teamwork or leadership concept or theory have you found the most useful for
your team project on this module and why? (250 words)
PART C. (2000 words)
Teamwork and Leadership Development
• Choose 3-4 areas covered during this module where you feel that you have most developed
your knowledge and skills (e.g. communication, decision making, leadership) and provide
evidence of your development in each area.
• You should draw on practical examples and support your analysis with relevant concepts
and theories of teamwork and leadership.
• You should clearly identify the implications of your learning for your future practice.
PART D. (500 words)
Teamwork and Leadership Action Plan for Future
• Formulate a clear action plan for future teamwork and leadership skills development. Your
action plan should clearly outline the specific steps you will take to achieve your goals, how
you will measure your success, the resources and support you will need, and your target
date for their achievement. Your action plan should be presented as a table within the
body of this section.
• You should then provide an accompanying written explanation and justification for your
action plan which refers back to your reflections in Parts A B and C of your portfolio i.e.
your action plan should help you to achieve your intended career/role and your future
goals should be primarily related to the areas of teamwork and leadership discussed in Part
C.
REFERENCE LIST (excluded from word count)
• Your reference list should demonstrate engagement with the course content and provide
evidence of supplementary reading.
• Your reference list should be presented according to the Harvard system of referencing.
APPENDIX (excluded from word count)
• This section should include all the evidence you have referenced in your portfolio to support
your reflections (e.g. self-assessment questionnaires, feedback forms, reflective journal
entries, workshop handouts and notes,).
• You should label the different pieces of evidence in your appendix, allowing you to refer to
them in the main body of your portfolio as Appendix A, B, C and so on.
• They should be listed in the contents page by their letter and given a descriptive title. For
instance: “Appendix A: Copy of survey questionnaire”.
• Hyperlinks may be provided to oversized or digital items but must be clearly labelled.

pressure to meet deadlines, negotiation skills, leadership.
Emotional Intelligence: e.g. self-awareness, self-management, awareness of others, managing
and supporting others, motivation, resilience, self-confidence.
Career-focused Skills: An understanding of the range of graduate careers, skills and attributes
required by employers, a range of strategies to present skills and attributes to employers.
Assessment Submission Instructions:
You are required to submit your assessment before 12 noon on 19th of May 2023 using the online
assessment submission facility on the Module Blackboard site. Pay careful attention to
instructions provided at the time of submission.
Late submission, where an extension has not already been granted, will attract penalties at the
level stipulated in the University Regulations (i.e. a reduction of 10 percentage points for each
whole or partial working day late).
Date for Return of Feedback:
The expected date to return grades and feedback is 12 June 2023.
Format for Assessment:
The portfolio will need to be submitted as one document using Microsoft Word. As a student of
the University of Lincoln, you will have access to Microsoft 365.
The portfolio is limited to 3,500 words. The word count includes everything in the main body of the
text (including headings, tables, citations, quotes etc). It does not include your appendix or
reference list.
The word count should be clearly stated on the first page of the assignment.
Please follow these formatting guidelines:
– Font / Size: Arial / 12
– Spacing / Sides: 1.5 / Single Sided
– Page numbers required? Yes
– Margins: At least 2.54 to left and right and text ‘justified’

– Referencing: Full compliance with Harvard protocols
Note usual practice is to allow +/-10%. If you submit an assignment which exceeds the prescribed
word limit, marking will cease at the point at which the limit has been exceeded and the mark will
be awarded on the basis of the extent to which the criteria for assessment have been met up to
that point.

Please note that all work is assessed according to the University of Lincoln Management of
Assessment Policy and that marks awarded are provisional on Examination Board decisions (which
take place at the end of the Academic Year).

Grades and written feedback will be available electronically on Blackboard. If you have any specific
questions relating to the feedback comments, please email your Tutor to discuss.
Additional Information for Completion of Assessment:
• Your reflections will be personal to you, can include your feelings and reactions, and so
you should use first person pronouns (e.g. ‘I’ and ‘we’). That said, this is still an academic
piece of work so ensure that you adopt a professional writing style.
• Ensure all sources referenced in your assessment are correctly listed according to the
Harvard System of referencing.
• Include only sources that you have cited in the work. If you consult any sources which you
have not cited, they should be listed in a Bibliography.
• It is very important to use appropriate academic books/e-books and journals/e-journals as
the basis for your research.
• Whilst you may use the internet, take great care to ensure that the sites are valid and
appropriate for academic purposes – sites such as Wikipedia, Businessballs.com,
MindTools.com etc. are inappropriate for academic research.
