Calculus is a mathematical discipline with profound applications in science, engineering, and economics. This unit investigates calculus and integration of a variable and various applications of the theory. Emphasis is placed on theoretical and foundational aspects of the discipline, as well as developing valuable skills in applying mathematical theory to solve practical problems. Topics covered in this study unit include complex numbers, functions of a single variable, limits and continuity, differentiation, optimization, Taylor polynomials, Taylor theorem, Taylor series, Riemann sums and Riemann integrals. It is strongly recommended that students complete MATH1021 or MATH1921 Calculus Single Variable (Advanced) before starting MATH1023 Multivariable Calculus and Modeling or MATH1923 Multivariable Calculus and Modeling (Adv).
